Who has more dynasty value between Ruud and... (1 Viewer)

Ahmad Brooks?

I currently have Brooks but am seriously thinking about dumping him for Ruud. Ruud has more potential this season, but I think in the long run Brooks will be a star in the NFL. He has amazing ability and is strong and fast. The problem with Brooks is that the Bengals LBs are loaded. He is behind Brian Simmons and when Thurman gets back, he will be behind him as well. The Bengals also have AJ Nicolson, Landon Johnson, and Pollock.

Do you think he will get a chance anytime soon to play? I just can't see the Bengals holding on to all of these stud LBs.

Isn't Brooks one of the Bengal headcases?

To be fair, he's behind another one in Thurman.

I'd prefer Ruud, and I'm a Quarles owner. I'm ntosure Ruud is as good as Quarles, but the opportunity there is huge: proven scheme.

I agree. This is closer than it looks.Ruud has gotten a lot of discussion recently and we've seen him play with and against first teamers recently so his value and ceiling is fairly well defined.Brooks, OTOH, is a wildcard.Bengal homer here so I'm happy to provide a bunch of background. Read on if you're curious. Otherwise the short version is that it's still unclear where the Bengals defense is headed. It looks like they view Brooks as a integral piece at ILB/MLB. He's clearly got big time talent and needs to be rostered in even moderately deep dynasty leagues until 07 training camp shakes out. The long version: Much hinges on how serious Marvin Lewis is about moving to a 3-4 (or some multiple front version) next season. You'll get some idea before week six when Thurman's suspension (and one week roster exemption during the bye week) runs out. Nicholson was on the chopping block at camp's end as a guy who didn't contribute much to special teams but got a reprieve when Chris Perry and Bennie Brazell went on PUP and IR respectively. Caleb Miller was in jeopardy as well.If the Bengals cut Miller, that suggests to me they want a bigger backer over a special teams guy and clearly signals their intent. If not, you may have to wait a little longer to know for sure. It's also not clear where Brooks would play in a 3-4. You'd think he fits best at one of the ILB spots but there were reports when he was drafted that some insiders felt he'd be an amazing all-around OLB. Not as dominant in pass rush as a Merriman but very solid in run support and could be coached up in coverage a bit. I'm not buying it though. To play ILB in the future though, Brooks would have to push Brian Simmons out on the street and the Bengals just showed that they value locker room presence pretty highly with the signing of Willie Anderson, which may keep them from re-signing one of the best guards in the league in Eric Steinbach. That's a whole lot of background information without much clarity but it should paint the picture a bit better for you.

Thanks for all the info Jene. I am just too high on Brooks. I follow college football as much as the NFL and Brooks was a bonified stud at Virginia. When he was a freshman, many where saying he was the best LB in college. What is he, like 6'5" 260 and runs a 4.4 40? I just don't see the Bengals or any other team not starting him in the next year or two.

However, like you said I might be able to pick him up later since I don't think he will get much PT this year.
