Is it Anderson or Musa Smith? I thought I read somewhere that Anderson may be moved back to FB. Any homers have any insight on this?
If/when the Ravens are out of it, I don't think it will be Billick making those decisions as he won't be on the sidelines any longer.ColinAnd Musa could be an absolute beast if he gets that job.
Watch out if Lewis continues his 2-year downward spiral or the Ravens are out of it and decide to sit free agent-to-be jamal for Billick's proclaimed "back of the future".
are you sure about this? I am completely on the musa smith bandwagon as i think he is a better and far more explosive back then Lewis, but according to the ravens depth chart, it has Anderson listed as the backup with musa being the 3rd option.Musa Smith is the backup
Musa would get more carries.MA is more of a fullback / CoP back this year. He isn't in Denver any more, and he plays like it. (That is, the Denver line > Balt line, which is still decent).are you sure about this? As do I. Money is often THE most powerful motivator and Lewis is still young.I happen to think Lewis will have a decent year.
Actually the Texans run-block just fine. Pass blocking is awful.Morrency is behind an un-proven rookie. On the flip-side, he is behind a bad oline with a crummy QB.Smith is w/ a decent O-line and a decent QB. The bad news is he's behind Lewis, who if he is actually recovered, could hog the load. I happen to think Lewis will have a decent year.
Furley, did you watch Musa this preseason? He's a reasonably high draft pick from a good RB school who has been derailed by injuries so far, but he looked like a beast this preseason.why would Musa Smith, a guy that sat behind Chester Taylor last year, suddenly vault ahead of a proven 1,000 yard rusher in Anderson despite this type of press:random drawing. knowing nothing of those guys.. i'd pick Smith last.
Because Smith was still recovering from a broken leg and he is now 100%. Smith has looked great in training camp and preseason games.why would Musa Smith, a guy that sat behind Chester Taylor last year, suddenly vault ahead of a proven 1,000 yard rusher in Anderson despite this type of press:"Smith has pretty much been the definition of 'bust' since being drafted in 2003. In 21 career NFL games, he has 21 carries for 79 yards and two TDs, both of which coming in '03. Smith is injury prone and will fight for a roster spot this preseason. He should be ignored unless he makes the team and both Jamal Lewis and Mike Anderson get banged up. (Updated 6/19/06)"old update. but, what, did the light suddenly go on and he's ready to carry the load?3 years in the league and he's carried the ball TWENTY ONE TIMES! when Lewis has gone down in the past it looks like Chester Taylor was getting the carries.Lewis:2002 Baltimore Ravens 308carries 1327yds 2003 Baltimore Ravens 387 20662004 Baltimore Ravens 235 10062005 Baltimore Ravens 269 906 Taylor:2002 Baltimore Ravens 33carries 122yds2003 Baltimore Ravens 63 2762004 Baltimore Ravens 160 7142005 Baltimore Ravens 117 487Smith:2003 Baltimore Ravens 9carries 31yds2004 Baltimore Ravens 12 482005 Baltimore Ravens 0 0 Anderson:2002 Denver Broncos 84carries 386yds2003 Denver Broncos 70 2572004 Denver Broncos 0 02005 Denver Broncos 239 1014(not to mention the 1400 he put up in 2000)random drawing. knowing nothing of those guys.. i'd pick Smith last.
didn't see him once.still mystified.i see a guy who has had 3 years to prove himself.. has had an injured knee, a broken leg, and been placed on the PUP. Najeh Davenport has had the same career and he just got waived. Anderson is a proven guy. he's done it. he had over 1k last year at age 31. i'm not trying to say the guy is a premier RB and will gain 1k again this year if only given the opportunity.. but he's a guy with game experience, a tough guy, reliable with the ball. he's got 36 td's in his career.Musa Smith hasn't really seen the field.. i guess he's got fresher legs as a result and he's younger but the league is littered with 3rd string RB's that sound a lot better than they look in action.eta: guess what i'm saying is the SP has a tendency to really hype the unproven guy and overlook the proven vet. if there's a 2 man race for the job the SP will nearly always favor unproven youth over veteran experience. teams don't often sign 32 year old RBs to be 3rd string. they can get a rookie to do that.Furley, did you watch Musa this preseason? He's a reasonably high draft pick from a good RB school who has been derailed by injuries so far, but he looked like a beast this preseason.why would Musa Smith, a guy that sat behind Chester Taylor last year, suddenly vault ahead of a proven 1,000 yard rusher in Anderson despite this type of press:random drawing. knowing nothing of those guys.. i'd pick Smith last.
Anderson has looked every bit of 32 this year. Slow, plodding and clearly not in Denver anymore. MA has no burst and Musa does. I don't think their intention when they signed him was to be 3rd string but Musa was coming off a major leg injury so they didn't know what they had in him. I also think they signed MA as leverage to get Jamal back in the fold but that's just my opinion. Musa clearly outplayed MA in the preseason and definitely deserves the backup job over MA, no question about it.didn't see him once.still mystified.i see a guy who has had 3 years to prove himself.. has had an injured knee, a broken leg, and been placed on the PUP. not trying to be dense here but.... why sign him then? you've got Musa Smith. why let Chester Taylor go? they can draft a guy.doesn't really make sense, to me anyways, to bring a 32 year old in to be your #3 as a way to leverage Jamal Lewis.I also think they signed MA as leverage to get Jamal back in the fold but that's just my opinion.
Chester didn't want to be here. He was upset they matched his offersheet from the Browns last year. The point is they didn't know what they had in Musa. He was coming off a horrific leg break and could not be counted on as a #2 back prior to the season. He's been injured throughout his entire pro career so it would be totally irresponsible to hand him the keys to the #2 job coming off an injury like that. Again, they didn't bring MA in to be the #3 rb, it just worked out that way because he was outplayed. Dayne was supposed to be the started in Denver which is why they let MA go in the first place. He gets hurt and then ends up cut. In training camp people win and lose jobs and in this case MA lost his spot on the depth chart. I suspect if they had a crystal ball and saw how training camp would end up they probably wouldn't never have signed him to a $2 mill/year deal.mr. furley said:not trying to be dense here but.... why sign him then? you've got Musa Smith. why let Chester Taylor go? they can draft a guy.doesn't really make sense, to me anyways, to bring a 32 year old in to be your #3 as a way to leverage Jamal Lewis.Banger said:I also think they signed MA as leverage to get Jamal back in the fold but that's just my opinion.![]()
I'd probably hold on to both. Definitely Lundy. Blaylock may be a starter at least he's in the mix. Musa's only gonna get carries if Jamal goes down or is totally ineffective. So Musa's been named the #2 RB and Lewis is questionable for game 1. I currently have Blaylock rostered in one league and Lundy in another. Is Musa worth dropping either or both of these guys for?
He's not in a contract year. That was last year. And all we heard was "he didn't want to risk his future, so he was running like a girl". Lewis is a monster bust and a waste of a draft pick.As do I. Money is often THE most powerful motivator and Lewis is still young.I happen to think Lewis will have a decent year.
I'm sure MA and even Shanny are less than happy w/ their decisions also @ this point.Jamal is looking for his payday, so he'll do everything possible to stay on the field to up the ante. Though Musa looks like a decent cuff play if you've got the roster spot to spare @ this point and you're already not carrying M Turner or Morris.mr. furley said:not trying to be dense here but.... why sign him then? you've got Musa Smith. why let Chester Taylor go? they can draft a guy.doesn't really make sense, to me anyways, to bring a 32 year old in to be your #3 as a way to leverage Jamal Lewis.Banger said:I also think they signed MA as leverage to get Jamal back in the fold but that's just my opinion.![]()
I heard Musa was having a great camp/pre-season where this could happen eventually, but I never expected it to be this soon.took Musa in the last couple rounds Wednesday as the handcuff to Lewis and was just about laughed out of the draft. sweet vindicationRavens | M. ya, Musa had a couple nice runs and catches in the 1st couple games against mostly 2nd teamers and came down to earth when going against starters the final 2 games.apparently Musa looked great in the first 2 games.. ripping off two runs totaling 80 yards.then finished the last 2 games with 7 & 11 yards.not like Mike Anderson did a whole lot but apparently he had a concussion in the first game or sometime before that.... not going to pound him up in there in the pre-season when he's got a concussion.![]()
