Not saying that Stewart should not be ahead of Mendenhall, but back to McFadden, I wonder how many of those five teams have a legitamate shot at McFadden (i.e. Raiders or Jets), or if they are picking 19th for example; in an odd way, it reminds me a little of the Chargers saying they preferred Leaf when they knew they probably would not wind up with Manning.According to Nawrocki at PFW, 7 out of 10 NFL teams prefer Stewart to McFadden. Five of those teams have pressing need at RB and five don't. All five of the teams who do prefer Stewart. This shouldn't be close.
That's not true at all, neither of them took the next step until 07.Stewart not only has more ability IMO, but it is more proven as well. Really the only reason this is close in my mind is because I am certainly scared a bit about the injury and Stewart's recovery.
Unless J Stew goes to Arizona and Mendenhall goes to Chicago or Detroit #2 is Mendenhall.
Arizona is a great situation for J Stew, Chicago and Detroit are awful situations for Mendenhall.Unless J Stew goes to Arizona and Mendenhall goes to Chicago or Detroit #2 is Mendenhall. What is the point here?

I expect Stewart to be drafted before McFadden. I'm far from certain, but if I had to make a $100 bet on who would be first, I bet on Stewart. No inside info, that's for sure. I just believe all the analysis favoring Stewart makes pretty solid sense. McFadden is a lightening bolt on the field but he is far from prototypical. From his ankles to his knees he is built like a shooting guard. He's been a media darling, and people like me who love playmakers are smitten, but Stewart is the more complete package. He has been higher rated since high school in some scouting circles. The PFW piece just highlighted all that for me, not because I haven't been paying attention to Waldman, Bloom, EBF and the thoughtful Stewart backers, but because it was a peak inside a few franchises supposed opinions. I believe Nawrocki does a solid job every draft season. If a sample equalling almost 1/3rd of the total group (10 NFL teams) comes back 70% in favor of Stewart, and the five most interested particulars in that sample are 100% favoring Stewart -- I'll defer to that report. To put a percentage on my expectation, I see it about 60-40 in favor of Stewart being drafted before McFadden. It won't bother me if I'm wrong and plenty of smoke blows this time of year, so who knows. The Raiders and McFadden seem like a great fit, and that would guarantee McFadden is RB1, but after that pick, this starts favoring Stewart to me.jeter23 said:CC< what makes you think so? They seem to have used their stud RB a lot last year (and he's on the wrong side of 30) and I trust the Whis/Grimm combo to develop a better running game than regime's in the past.stp-d said:Isn't Arizona a deadzone for RB's with potential?MAC_32 said:Arizona is a great situation for J Stew, Chicago and Detroit are awful situations for Mendenhall.SproutDaddy said:MAC_32 said:Unless J Stew goes to Arizona and Mendenhall goes to Chicago or Detroit #2 is Mendenhall. What is the point here?

I was just thinking that I could win $100 and if not, I probably owed you that for the knowledge you've posted here.

Still waiting for more people to support Stewart in this poll?

To me Felix Jones just looks to worlds apart from being close to the best back from this class in five years (weak, not shiftier than the bigger guys and unproven) - but lets revisit this issue in 2013! I do however support you for going with a dark-horse.I think it will be either Mendenhall or Stewart and since picking two would be lame - I'll sayWho will be the best Pro in 5 years from now? F.JonesWho should go 1.02? F.JonesWho will Mendenhall, and it won't be close.1.01 and 1.02 are think are easy and clear cut. 1.03 is were yes Stewart will go most. But the likes of F.Jones,Rice,Charles and even Charles way be selected. But 1.02 for poll I would say Mendenhall, because I don't think many will know enough to pick F.Jones.
I think Stewart will be the best RB of the draft personally. Whether or not that comes to fruition in draft order, who knows.Chaos Commish said:I expect Stewart to be drafted before McFadden. Anyone with a college football pulse knew who Stewart was prior to 07. I highly doubt anyone outside of the Big Ten knew who Mendenhall was. Heck, some in the Big Ten didn't even know. That's not true at all, neither of them took the next step until 07.Stewart not only has more ability IMO, but it is more proven as well. Really the only reason this is close in my mind is because I am certainly scared a bit about the injury and Stewart's recovery.

Yeah, something about being a starter for 2 years vs. being a starter for 1 had something to do with that also..... There is a reason he was known and Mendenall wasn't.I assume you are only looking at final stats (800/6 for Mendenhall vs. 1200/11 for Stewart still not very close). The fact is Stewart was the sure fire starter in 2006 but battled about a half dozen injuries throughout the year and left several games early because of it. Despite that, he still had 10 games with double digit rushes and 4 with over 20. Mendenhall had 2 with double digits and none over 20 and was a back up. Really, there is no doubt that Stewart is more proven. Not sure what case you can possibly make to show otherwise but have at it.Just because he was known doesn't mean he was more proven.Anyone with a college football pulse knew who Stewart was prior to 07. J Stew was in a committee with Jeremiah Johnson in 06 and 07 until Johnson got injured in 07, Mendenhall was also in a committee in 06. Why didn't he get more carries? Probably because his terrible team went 2-9 and they'd be forced to the air by the 3rd quarter. Both came into the season with the potential tag and then broke out in a major way, neither of them had proven anything.Yeah, something about being a starter for 2 years vs. being a starter for 1 had something to do with that also..... I don't follow Oregon terribly well, but I don't recall a RBBC in 2006. Stewart left the Stanford game early then missed nearly all of the Fresno game. He then left the UCLA game early and missed nearly all of the Portland game. He again left the Arizona game early. Ironically, these were the games in which Johnson got double digit rushes in 2006. I know they had a RBBC for the most part early in 2007. However, I thought that was simply because Stewart was returning kicks and he had been so fragile the year before they wanted to spell him. Oregon wanted him to be the guy though. I thought that I had heard that early in the year while watching a few of their games, but I my be mistaken.J Stew was in a committee with Jeremiah Johnson in 06 and 07 until Johnson got injured in 07, Mendenhall was also in a committee in 06.
