The question at hand is "Who is the best musician turned actor". If I'm reading this right, we are looking for the best musician who then went into acting. They all went into acting. Of the choices, who is the best musician?

Or are we looking for the combo of musician/acting ability?
I judged based on the bolded. For me it meant the Chairman or the King. I chose the King.

If we're going by best combo of music and acting talent, it would be a tossup between Cher and Will Smith for me.

Wahlberg. Boogie Nights is an absolutely outstanding movie and better than anything any of the others listed have on their resumes. Amazing cast and he held his own in the lead role.

How would you consider someone that started in musicals? They started acting and singing at the same time? Bette MIdler comes to mind.

Oh yeah, when I mentioned Jared Leto, I was trying to think of the most talented actor who was once a musician, so I interpreted (likely misinterpreted) it an even different way. Your way seems right though.
IMO, as good of an actor Leto is with an Oscar and all, he's an even better rock vocalist than he is an actor.

Honestly, if I could have anyone’s career in entertainment, it would be Jared Leto.

Epic

Some others that aren't mentioned that shouldn't be at the top of this list but are worth calling out as I think they are generally good actors:
Eminem
Harry Styles
Common
Mos Def
Harry Connick Jr.
Alana Haim
Marc Anthony
Tim McGraw
Might not be the best, but he was the first person that came to my mind when I read the question.

Pretty close between Will Smith and Sinatra for me.

I think Sinatra was the better musician and Will Smith is probably a better actor, but it’s close.
Sinatra has two Oscar wins to Will Smith's one but W Smith is still working and is on the right side of this century to get a lot of votes.

Wahlberg is popular(and good) but I just see a lot of himself in his movies.

Good point about the Oscars.

I was thinking the same thing about Sinatra and Smith (being the same person in every movie).

For Sinatra, After The Man with The Golden Arm and From Here To Eternity, Probably- but those two are not "Frank Sinatra" vehicles.
Golden Arm is a 1955 movie about a Man(Sinatra) with a heroin addiction. Not your typical movie for that(or almost any) time.

And Some Came Running. Another genius performance from Sinatra. The Manchurian Candidate, he’s definitely not playing Frank. That could have been Burt Lancaster or Kirk Douglas in that role. He’s great in a very underseen movie called Suddenly. He plays a psychotic assassin who breaks into a home and takes a family hostage because he’s determined their home is the perfect vantage point to take a sniper shot at the President. It’s one of his earliest films where he isn’t singing and it’s pretty damn good.
