Who is the fastest current major leaguer? (1 Viewer)

Funny, as I have Bourn, Borbon, Najai and Morgan on my team. I am like Al Davis...I collect the speed.

Home to 1B it's still gotta be Ichiro no?

In terms of basestealing, I'd guess the following are all in the conversation: Bourn, Gardner, Ellsbury, Crawford (he seems the best going first to home), Rajai, Borbon, Everth Cabrera, Andrus, Pierre, C.Gomez, Maybin, Upton, Nyjer. Tough to see who is the best of that group.

A lot of good candidates, which is why it was silly to burn an early rounder on Ellsbury or Crawford this year.

BUMP for a new contender:

Mike Trout, the Angels phenom, is pretty damn fast.

How fast, exactly? Last night Trout beat out a bunt down the third base line despite Twins third baseman Danny Valencia playing him to bunt and did so while getting to first base in ridiculous time.

Angels third base coach Dino Ebel times runners with a stop watch and told Mark Saxon of ESPN Los Angeles that Trout went from the batter’s box to first base in 3.53 seconds.

That’s insanely fast for a right-handed hitter and as Saxon notes the legend of a young, Trout-aged Mickey Mantle included him getting to first base in 3.5 seconds from the right side of the plate.

Keeping the throne warm for Billy Hamilton
What's his ETA?
He's still in the class A Cal league so I wouldn't expect him before mid 2014. He'd be a very interesting call-up as a Herb Washington type when the rosters expand in September but he's not currently on the Reds' 40 man roster.
He just got promoted during the ASB. Good chance that he gets a September call up just to run. As pointed out, he's not on the 40 man roster, but the Reds are a man or two short of the 40. Think they're at 38 since Masset got transitioned over from the 15 day DL to the 60 day, plus since Willie Harris got outrighted to Louisville again.. Also, Drew Stubbs is rather fast.

Jim Thome must be the slowest. After sliding in for a double the announcer said "didn't look like he was going fast enough to slide"

Vince Coleman was fast as hell. Trout probably fastest current player. Chapman throws fastest.

Slowest 4 x 400 team would be Jim Thome, Travis Hafner, AJ Pierzinski, and Scott Rolen.

Anthony Gose scored from 1st about as quickly as I've ever seen at Fenway.
This guy might be the fastest guy in the league but he will rarely be on base. He needs to go to the all bunt/slap hip approach because I think I hit better.

All-time.Where does Ron Hassey rank?
Right church, wrong Ron.Hassey would have smoked Karkovice in the 40.
I would pay to see Ron Karkovice and Ron Hassey run the 40 yard dash.Wager on whose hamstring/heart exploded first.
Non-pitchers I've seen thrown out at first base by an outfielder: Sean Casey and Alvin Davis. As far as teh greatest ever slow guy, I think Willie McCovey might be the answer.

Worked well for Willie Wilson...didn't work so well for Joey Gathright. If he can be a great fielder, he'll find work.
Wilson could hit some. The next Willie Wilson is in the Reds organization, Billy Hamilton.ETA: Gose is a terrific fielder though. Think Ben Revere with a huge arm.

I thought I read that Gose had a rope for an arm and good range. Like I said, his floor is as a fielding replacement/pinch runner, but he's capable of more. And now that I look at Wilson's stats, you're right about his hitting ability. Reminds me of an upgraded version of Michael Bourn. I do remember reading in Bill James' Historical Abstract that Wilson went through a phase when he wanted to start hitting for power (think Willie Mays Hayes in Major League 2) because he was tired of simply hitting between the infielders and outfielders.

Slow?

Doug Mientkiewicz was so painfully slow that he was quicker on instant replay.

Spring training game and they had Matt Lecroy pinch run for him and I swear that Matt Lecroy was wiping mustard off his chin when he entered the game.

Terry Kennedy was a slowpoke
