I'm going with The New Bomb Turks, The Devil Dogs, or Rancid.
I'm pretty sure that covers it. What say you?

Oof. What a great band. I have not laid out the contours of eligibility. I am not thinking straight after a sober month. I am thinking of those bands that defined the '91-'98 scene, really.Fugazi
now let's start talking 2nd place.
nofxFugazi
Screeching Weasel
The Queers
The New Bomb Turks
The Devil Dogs
Rancid
Any others?
San Diegans?Drive Like Jehu
Bad Religion I would think of as eighties. Are you leaving Bad Religion, Green Day, Offspring, nofx, unwritten law and pennywise off the list for a particular reason.
I would even add Dropkick Murphys, the bouncing souls and a little band named Nirvana
Sure. But the Devil Dogs were Crypt Records and a Sympathy For The Record Industry Band. Legends.Plus, im not sure you can define a sound if someone like me who was into the scene never heard of you.
Who are the devil dogs
A friend of mine knew her husband from sum 41. He showed me what was supposed to be a pic of her breasts. I dont know if it was really her, but ill be damned if I dont believe it. Still have it etched in my mind.Avril Lavigne
Swingin Utters were favorites of mine also. Streets of San Francisco is such a fun Oi! album, which has no business as a phrase used together.Really like swingin utters. I wouldn't say they defined the decade, but they were fun.
Also, personally, I was big into NYHC. In NY, bands like H2O, Sick of it all, 25 ta life, No Redeeming Social Value and VOD defined the hardcore sound of that time period.
Probably should add Civ, Madball and Skarhead. Heck, lets throw in Shelter and Kill Your idols also.
Man, that was a really fun time for me.

Couldn't help but think of you and the new Samsung ad, OPM.Puke
i was a teen in the 90's, never heard of 3/4 of the bands being talked about in this thread.Plus, im not sure you can define a sound if someone like me who was into the scene never heard of you.
Who are the devil dogs
Such a great band. Saw them live several times in a small podunk ####hole here in Kansas. Will never forget the drummer stripping down to his tightie whities before he sat down and just kicked ### for the next 2 hours.descendants
Barely make the timeline, one of my favorite bands ever. How about those Distillers?
Would!Barely make the timeline, one of my favorite bands ever.

Jon Cougar Concentration Camp*Clearly the answer is Thomas Jefferson Slave Apartments
#### yeah. Positively Sick... is another favorite of mineIt's The Humpers, for one album at least. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-gCUL1W7GQ
These are some of the first that came to my mind. I consider Social D and Bad Religion to be 80s. A few I would add based more on my personal experience than anything:Rancid
Green Day
Pennywise
Face-To-Face
Reel Big Fish/Less Than Jake (ska / punk)
Just kickin' it?Rancid.
You asked for the greatest 90's punk band. Don't see why nominating more than one band makes any sense at all.
One of the most punk things I witnessed at a show was the female lead singer of the Muffs getting extremely pissed at a few groups of people that clearly didn't come to see them play. I don't recall who The Muffs were playing before that night but they were on stage before the "headliner" (which was probably someone like Chixdiggit or New Bomb Turks...lol) but multiple times she starting screaming at people.Mr. T Experience's and The Muffs' omission is criminal!
Nice! I almost included The Humpers. Big fan of 'Live Forever or Die Trying'. Live they were an absolute whirlwind of energy and sound too. Like a less-polished/no horns/punk version of Rocket From The Crypt. It's The Humpers, for one album at least. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-gCUL1W7GQ
Love MxPxThese are some of the first that came to my mind. I consider Social D and Bad Religion to be 80s. A few I would add based more on my personal experience than anything:
AFI
MxPx
Lagwagon
No Use For A Name
Millencolin
If I had to pick THE definitive 90's punk band I would narrow it down to between NOFX and Rancid.
Jawbox is one of my favorite all-time underrated bands.Stick in DC. I think between Jawbox and Burning Airlines, J Robbins did some fantastic work
Kim was known for tampon antics. That is not surprising. One of the most punk things I witnessed at a show was the female lead singer of the Muffs getting extremely pissed athe a few groups of people that clearly didn't come to see them play. I don't recall who The Muffs were playing before that night but they were on stage before the "head liner" (which was probably was someone like Chixdiggit or New Bomb Turks...lol) but multiple times she starting screaming at people.
Turning your back to the stage, especially at any punk show, falls somewhere between poor form or just plain stupidity...so I can't say I blamed her. I seem to recall they just released Blonder and Blonder so I was into it, but eventually the show deteriorated as the outbursts took place less and less between songs and more and more during them. At some point she started into the crowd, but after some pushing and shoving was eventually coerced back on stage bh chantinb fans and by some people playing nice and turning around. Of course, they then immediately turned their backs on the band again when she got back on stage and looked their way.
So she responded in one of the few ways left to her. She reached under her dress (and after a moment) her hand appeared with a...I'll call it a "weapon of menstrual destruction". It was clearly previously in place for a reason and was now being thrown toward the group of agitators. It managed to find the side of one of them before smacking to the floor. All hell broke loose. That itself wasn't anything unusual, but the spark that set if off that night certainly
They got the Deftones treatment with Savory.Jawbox is one of my favorite all-time underrated bands.
I was just going to nominateMaybe not the best band, but the best name from the decade goes to Propaghandi
