I dont do defensive projections, but if I did, that D would be in my top 5 this week. They smell blood in the water, and the secondary has really stepped up.Picked up Dallas off waivers to choose between them and the NYJ. All things point to another solid game for the defense who seems to be juiced up. Mason/Clayton/Heap to me is the same as Hixon/Smith/Boss and the CBs didn't do that bad of a job in coverage. I think I am rolling with the Cowboys after what they did to Big Blue last weekend.
Would you mind rattling off your top five or ten ranked Ds for this week in here? No projections necessary.I dont do defensive projections, but if I did, that D would be in my top 5 this week. Yes, I would be very interested in seeing that list as well. I haven't been too enamored with the FBG defensive projections this season either. It seems to me FBG would be wise to find a Kickermania equivalent to defensive projections, as not having a second opinion on the subject has been a major liability for me this season.Would you mind rattling off your top five or ten ranked Ds for this week in here? I'd say Dallas and Pittsburgh are must plays. I think they'll both expose one-dimensional O's this week. The Jets are close, with their big plays guys + LWash, and the chance of weather playing a role in Seattle this week. The next tier would be teams like Minnesota, who is hot, but loses Fat Pat, Houston just because Oakland is so bad and they are playing with a lot of pride right now, Baltimore, because even in a bad matchup they are still a threat, Philly, because Washington is on the ropes and they're an attack D, and the Giants, for the same reason as Baltimore.Cleveland, Cincy, New England, and Arizona could all be viable plays if the weather forecasts hold and those games are played in bad conditions. This is off the top of my head, I'll think about it some more and check in later today.Would you mind rattling off your top five or ten ranked Ds for this week in here? Deciding between Minny and Houston right now. Glad to hear you like both of them.In a league where Points Against matter (10 to -10), Minny is really my only play this week. The only other option from this list is Cincy. And while the Browns and the weather might be atrocious, I just don't think I can start Cincy in the SB.Sigmund Bloom said:The next tier would be teams like Minnesota, who is hot, but loses Fat Pat, Houston just because Oakland is so bad and they are playing with a lot of pride right now, Baltimore, because even in a bad matchup they are still a threat, Philly, because Washington is on the ropes and they're an attack D, and the Giants, for the same reason as Baltimore.Cleveland, Cincy, New England, and Arizona could all be viable plays if the weather forecasts hold and those games are played in bad conditions. This is off the top of my head, I'll think about it some more and check in later today.
Part of the reason I like the Giants is that this team seems to know how to focus when they need to, and also their whole attitude changes with jacobs (and I expect Jacobs to play). Tuck and Kiwi should force Delhomme into some mistakes. The only real X factor is whether Eli plays so badly that they get in a hole early and Carolina can just pound Williams and Stewart.Surprised (but happy) that Sigmund said the Giants were a good play this week. Even though they are a fantastic real-life defense, they've actually been below average as a fantasy defense especially these last few weeks. Their only sack against Philly came when McNabb tripped over his own feet and the 3 of the 4 sacks they got vs. Romo were a gift as he was fighting temporary pain.Delhomme is subject to mistakes though so hopefully they'll take advantage on the stat sheet and in the final result.
I love your analysis here and just to give another perspective from my league which doesnt count yardage:Week 10 -Panthers D scores -18 pts against Raiders (1FF, 5 sacks, 2 Ints, 6pts allowed)No expert here. I have the Jets, the Cards, and the Dolphins. On the wire are NE and Hou who have both been mentioned here. Without bombing you with our league's scoring for defensive teams, it's pretty standard with considerations for fumbles, interceptions and defensive TD's, of course, and points and yardage against. I don't remember which week Oakland changed it's coach, but I went back to week 10. To my surprise, (Scoring systems are relative.) these are the defensive scores each week vs Oakland:
week 10 - Panthers D scores - 17 points
11 - @Miami D scores - 15
12 - @ Denv D scores 3
13 - KC - 15
14 - @ SD - 18
15 - NE - 13
Here's where you have to trust my analysis, but I'm pretty happy with 9 or 10 points, minimally. In my league the top defense (Ravens) this year averaged almost 14 points per week, with the Steelers and Eagles closer to 13. The 12th highest D (Cards) averaged almost 11 for whatever average is worth. The Texans scored a bit more than 8 per week. The bottom team, the Lions, have averaged a tad more than 6 per week. I'm starting to like Houston with its offense clicking vs Oakland. Now do I have the ballz to play them?

Combining this with.....Good point. Just grabbed Cincy to stash away just in case I wake up Sunday more indecisive than I already am.My concerns about starting a team like Cincy is that they're on the road and as bad as Dorsey is, he's not giving up big points to opposing defenses. On Monday, the Eagles AT HOME only got one interception off of him and didn't record a 2nd sack until late in the 4th quarter. Yes the Eagles scored on their lone pick and kept the Browns to just 10 points. But I was a little disappointed in just how few defensive stats the Eagles logged in that game. And the week before, Tennessee only got one sack on Dorsey. On the bright side, if there's a blizzard, the potential for points against could be huge (10 for a shutout, 8 for 3-6 points scored, 6 for up to 13 points scored; no PA bonus once opponent reaches 24, but no negative points either). And both defenses could get credit for sacks because of slip and falls.Regarding personal preference, even though I've ripped other fantasy owners for considering "last licks" as part of their lineup decision process, it's hard to overlook in the championship game. I have an opportunity to have three players going when my opponent is done: Steve Smith (Car) and Giants D on Sunday night and Ryan Grant on Monday night. While having a decent RB and a top 3 WR on deck is good security, having a defense that's capable (but unlikely) to compile defensive stats adds to the cause. Again, it's all a mental thing as the game being played at 1 p.m. or even tonight wouldn't make a difference in the fantasy score (and I don't buy into the "teams play different on national TV" philosophy).Good luck to all.Part of the reason I like the Giants is that this team seems to know how to focus when they need to, and also their whole attitude changes with jacobs (and I expect Jacobs to play). Raiders Update: WRs Lelie, Curry Doubtful
David White, San Francisco Chronicle - [Full Article]
The Raiders will likely be without starting receivers Ashley Lelie (calf) and Ronald Curry (turf toe). Both are listed as doubtful for Week 16 against the Titans. Second-year receiver Johnnie Lee Higgins and rookie Chaz Schilens will likely start, with backups Jonathan Holland and Todd Watkins hoping to make their first NFL catches. In addition, TE Zach Miller (shoulder) and FB Luke Lawton (concussion) were limited in practice Wednesday. Also, the team released LB Robert Thomas and signed WR D.J. Hall to the practice squad.

How much confidence? I went with Washington vs Cincinatti last week over Pitt vs Baltimore. That cost me 14 points (our league scores 5 points for a team win). Pittsburgh got me through the regular season so I am likely going with them. Collins will throw some interceptions and I think it will be a similar game as last week. I'm going with Pittsburgh but I'm not super confident. Houston vs Oakland is a very tempting matchup.Anyone playing Pitt with confidence @ Tenn??
I"m going to start the Browns D over the NYG D I think. It's hard to say what I'll get, but especially in a league that counts return yards (like mine), I like that upside. The Bengals are allowing the most points to opposing fantasy Ds over the last 6 weeks. And if weather is nasty even better at home for the Browns. Cribbs is due for a Kickoff return for a TD.Good point. The Browns defense could be on the field for a good long timewith Dorsey going 3 and out all day.I picked up the Browns and I'm trying to decide between the Browns and the Cowboys. My fear with the Cowboys is to me and take heart I have not seen a ton of the Cowboys, but when Romo is not feeling up to bar and not playing well the Def gives up a lot more points. I have a feeling this is going to be a tight game and a slug fest. Romo scares me and if he gets pulled.....Ouch...I see the Ravens getting a ton of good field possessions which leads to points.Browns in a rival game in the sleet/snow. Dorsey is a problem as well and they gave up 30 to the Eagles, but 7 came from a pick and they have Cribs returning kicks and punts. Fitz is playing in Cleveland in a hostile enviroment against a defense that plays pretty tough. Cincy beat Washington on their home field and Cincy wins this game they might lose a higher pick...hmmmm funny how that might play out. I like the Browns defense this week against my beloved Bengals. Cribs plays a big part for me. In this type of waether he could break one easy if he has a open lane. It's very difficult as a defensive player to catch a guy who can still make 1 or 2 cuts in bad weather. Cribs can do that. I'll be watching the injury report for Cribs and Romo.
So you'r saying Fitzpatrick and Cincy O will be on the field all day? Highly unlikelyThe Browns defense could be on the field for a good long timewith Dorsey going 3 and out all day.I picked up the Browns and I'm trying to decide between the Browns and the Cowboys. As someone mentioned in the Week 16 kicker thread, Seattle has a retractable domed stadium, so unless they plan to leave the dome open I don't see weather being a factor. Given this possibility, do you still like the Jets this weekend? The Jets are close, with their big plays guys + LWash, and the chance of weather playing a role in Seattle this week.Would you mind rattling off your top five or ten ranked Ds for this week in here? No projections necessary.I dont do defensive projections, but if I did, that D would be in my top 5 this week. I think I am rolling with the Cowboys after what they did to Big Blue last weekend.
yeah, it's about as retractable as soldier field, so I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that one....definitely not a retractable domed stadium. As someone mentioned in the Week 16 kicker thread, Seattle has a retractable domed stadium, so unless they plan to leave the dome open I don't see weather being a factor. OK. Thanks. I don't watch too many Seahawks games, so I assumed (we all know what that gets you) the person who said it was a retractable dome knew what they were talking about.Given that the weather may be a factor again, I think I'm leaning Jets this weekend over the Browns, Colts, and Viking defenses this week.yeah, it's about as retractable as soldier field, so I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that one....definitely not a retractable domed stadium.
Well I went with Indy. It looked like a horrible decision until the last 5-6 minutes. As of now I'm rolling with the Colts D. The last time Jax scored over 20 points was 6 weeks ago. Although GB is on waivers and staring me in the face right now.
I dropped them this week, but would have been happy with 11 points from my DST.ScottNorwood said:Well I went with Indy. True, this could be a punting fest.I still think there are much better options out there.the spanker said:So you'r saying Fitzpatrick and Cincy O will be on the field all day? Browns punter is hurting. I dont know why everyone thinks the browns are good here. With Benson and Henry emerging, the bengals have more offensive opportunities.Browns have 3rd string QB and TE going...True, this could be a punting fest.I still think there are much better options out there.the spanker said:So you'r saying Fitzpatrick and Cincy O will be on the field all day? There's a freaking blizzard in New England, plus Boldin isn't playing.Arizona has no running game.I think NE may be a solid play even with the ragtag bunch on defense. This sucks. I have too many to choose from.
Thanks man.Tough one. But I WILL get back to you on it.Had Indy and Tampa. Started Tampa, so far. Could grab SF or Denver but doubt I'll pull the trigger, although my gut says Denver does well (like returning one).
