Whose week does Revis ruin (1 Viewer)

One might think that Revis is going to severely diminish the value of one Steeler WR, singlehandedly. Who will it be?

Mike Wallace? Hines Ward? It would seem that those would be the only two options... my gut says Mike Wallace, but who the f cares what my gut says?

Has anyone seen any local speculation?

<----- Jets homer

My guess would be Revis spends far more time on Ward than he does Wallace. Revis can cover and dominate any type of WR, Cromartie on the other hand cannot. Cromartie is built to cover guys like Wallace who run predominantly deep routes and not built to cover short/quick, or short/physical receivers. A receiver like Ward would be a terrible matchup for Cromartie.

Just my guess, but I follow the Jets very closely (FML) and I'd be shocked (and angry) if this was not the case.

I dont follow the Jets at all but given how they have used Revis, my guess was he would be on Ward.

Good assessment. Cromartie has a better chance against a guy like Moss (when he tries), than a Welker-type. Ward has been a Welker-type even before there was a Welker...

See, my gut knows nothing!

Welker did alright against the Jets, running mostly short underneath routes or quick screens - but Welker has been a player on the rise this season, as he returns to health from his knee surgery. To me, Ward has lost a step. If Revis is on him, I don't see him replicating the success Welker had.

I was watching that game very closely because I needed Welker to get 13.5 pts to win my champioship and what I saw that night was on 1st and 2nd downs when the Jets were going man to man Welker was shut down by Revis. When the Jets played zone is where Welker got all his catches and his TD.

No matter who's guarding them, I can't see starting either Wallace or Ward this week unless you have to. Maybe Wallace is a WR3 this week, but Ward isn't even that.

The Jets are hurting at safety. I expect the Steelers to employ a lot of 3, 4 and 5 reciever sets. Heath Miller could be huge.

Darrelle Revis was limited with a tight hamstring. The Jets are being cautious with their star corner. He will play Sunday.

If I was Arians/Tomlin, I'd run the skinny post the first 3 or 4 times I saw Revis on Wallace. Nobody can run with Wallace and if that hammy is tweaked it might be enough to tweak it just a bit more.
The forecast for Sunday was originally calling for highs in the low 30s and now they're saying a high of 23 with snow showers. It may be in the teens by the end of the game. Not very good for anyone nursing a hammy.

FWIW, I've watched the last two Steelers games, and they've been doing a lot more to get the ball in Wallace's hands, especially bubble screens. He hasn't had a deep ball in either game, but has still managed to put up decent numbers (5/76 vs Ravens, 6/78 vs Bengals). Against the Ravens, they threw a screen on third and goal, and if he had spent less time dancing right after he got the ball, he could have had a score. This is just my supposition -- I haven't seen it published anywhere -- but it really seems like they recognized he's more than a one-dimensional talent and/or didn't want opponents to be able to take him out of the equation by rolling a safety over the top. That's not to say Cromartie can't cover him, or he's guaranteed to have a good game (and I'm still not sure he won't be on Revis Island). But the all-or-nothing stereotype of him from earlier in the season appears to be outdated.BTW, one of the most annoying things about Wallace's digs at Revis are that it's impossible to find *legit* information about who's covering who. All the reporters covering the remarks just assume that means they'll be facing off, but I haven't seen any sort of confirmation from the Jets.

Fast forward, Wallace went 7 - 102 that week, Ward had 2 -34.

I don't get to see Revis in action or the Jets too much, but it seems when a team has 2 talents receivers, they can be playable.

Guys like V. Jackson, D. Bowe, B. Marshall, B. Lloyd, S. Johnson, S. Moss, J. Ford, M. Thomas look to be the easy/obvious picks to bench against Revis due to the gap between them and the #2's on their teams.

These are the guys I'm thinking could pose

Miles Austin - Dez Bryant: I almost feel Austin is an obvious bench. I feel this Comboys offense can be one of the best in the league and Dez can be a #1 sooner than later.

Welker - Ochocinco : Welker went 6-38-1 in their first meeting last year, with Moss being held to 1- 4 until a 34 yd TD which Revis got hurt on; In the blowout 7-80-1 (branch 3-64-1); in the playoffs 7-57 (Branch 7-59-1)

D. Jackson - Maclin: Can Revis stop D Jax?

Nicks - Manningham: Almost feel Nicks is an obvious bench here, but I don't know in real football how much more of a threat he is than Manningham whose is capable of putting up big numbers

Boldin - Evans: Boldin 7-110 in last years first game, beating Cromatie mostly, Revis out of shape. I would bench Boldin, but by week 4 Evans might have a few big games. Or maybe not
