Why do you never hear about an offense getting tired (1 Viewer)

YOu have to think that offensive linemen would be pretty friggin exhausted if he has been on the field for 40 minutes in a game. Maybe because an offense being on the field that much usually means you are on top and a player is more likely to feel tired if he is on the losing side of the game

Heard an ex Denver lineman talking about this on the radio last week. He said that one of the reasons that they continually would go for the legs and try to get their opponent on the ground is that the defense has to get right back up and go after the ball carrier. In particular, when you are talking about the d-line the cumulative effect of this has them worn out by the fourth quarter.

In terms of linebackers and defensive backs, they have to get after the ball carrier on every play. The offense occasionally gets plays where the action is not to them and they have a simple task of blocking one guy and once the play is downfield they are mostly out of it.

I guess that a defensive back has to assume the ball is coming his way every play while the offensive player knows where the play is supposed to go and can 'take plays off'

With most any sport, it takes more energy to defend than attack. Except for baseball. But that's not really a sport, is it?
