I don't know but I would really like to know. He had a great end to last season though. I would think that would have him fairly entrenched:
Found this:
Kansas City: Pollard is going to provide a serious challenge to Sammy Knight for the starting strong safety job. Turley will compete with Kevin Sampson and Jordan Black for the starting right tackle job once occupied by Welbourn.
This will likely be determined in camp. Still, Pollard was a third round pick and Knight was just aquired a year ago, and the Chiefs seemed to make it out to be a big signing along with Surtain. Then again, new coaching staff in town usually means shake-ups somewhere, and we already know that it won't be n offense. I guess we won't really know until camp is over. I would think that they would move Knight to FS rather than bench him for Greg Wesley though.
Agreed. I think it's a little early to anoint Bernard Pollard as the second coming of Sammy Knight just yet.
Knight slipped a bit last year and Antonio Gates made him look silly, but he's still got some play left in him, IMO. Pollard was a second rounder, though, and Herm isn't shy about putting rookie in the lineup early so the potential is there for Knight to lose time. I think Wesley has better cover and ball skills at this point than Knight, so it's likely Wesley sticks at FS.
I know Norton strongly feels that Pollard wins the job in training camp and his projections reflect that. I think Sammy Knight provides good value in all formats for now, as long as you understand the risk involved. He dropped in my rankings because there's a truckload of guys in the same tier without the red flag.
See my dynasty rankings. There are some changes coming in my next update (most notably bumping Rolle), but they're pretty close to my thinking entering camps...Depending on how your scoring system values tackles and coverage plays, but I don't know that I'd take Knight over any of those guys except Vincent and Kiel unless he would become my DB4 or DB5 on a team pushing for a title. If corners aren't particularly valuable, he's ahead of Taylor, Spencer, and Rolle as well.
Ask the Charger coaching staff. Currently, speculation is that Clinton Hart has the lead in the battle to start at SS. I'm currently of the mind that his ankle injury was the limiting factor last season. His tackling and coverage skills looked solid in 2004.
