Why is there an injury report in the NFL? (1 Viewer)

Why is there an injury report in the NFL. I'm in a disagreement here and I need the real scoop. Someone I am arguing with says it gives an unfair advantage to opponents to know whether a guy is injured or not. I don't have an answer.

They don't have one in hockey, or they lie about it. Especially in the playoffs. So, why?

My belief (and I believe I have heard it discussed before) is GAMBLING.

Because there is so much betting on the games the injury report is deemed very important for betting.

there is an injury report in the NFL because a multi-billion dollar gambling industry revolves around NFL games.

Thanks all. I guess I should have known that but I wanted a more altruistic reason.
You're looking at it backwards. Prior to the injury reports only insiders or those who could pay had access to the injury status. This gave them an unfair advantage with respect to other gamblers. Now that it is publicly reported, in theory, everyone has access. It balances the playing field.
