Why is Tom Brady punting the ball up 35 points? (1 Viewer)

Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski broke his forearm.I'm told he did it on the Patriots' last extra point.
Eeked out the win, though. Nice work, Bill!
I'm at Pats fan, and on top of that I don't think me and Raider Nation have ever gotten along very well. But in this case, he is absolutely right. Belichek is a ####### idiot for leaving in his starters during blowouts like today. Someone said it in the Gronk thread - karma. Nice job Belidick.
Is there any concern for Andrew Luck being in the game with the same score or can injuries only occur to the winning team in blowouts?
Uh, is that a serious question? Of course it's equally moronic that Luck was in the game at that point. And not just because I was going up against him in my fantasy football game either. The NFL is a war of attrition. When the game is decided, pack it up so you can live to fight another day. In any other business if you treated your multi-million assets with this much stupidity you'd get fired.
Agreed but thats the point. People ##### about the Patriots but not other teams. If its moronic for the Patriots to do it then it is equally moronic for the Colts to do it. The fact that people have a different standard for different players/teams is the issue.
I think most people think that when a team is up by 35 points late in the game, the key starters on both sides should be out of the game.

Not at all. He's a rookie who needs as many NFL snaps as he can possibly get. Brady is one of the best all time with multiple league and SB MVPs under his belt, he doesn't need the reps. Star QBs do get benched all the time in blowouts to protect them from injury however they tend to be vets with more than 9 games in their careers.
People are #####ing and moaning about Gronkowski being in the game who is all of 6 months older than Luck. At what age/tenure are players no longer supposed to be in blowouts for future reference?
Here's a counter question. Do you know the difference between a 3rd year TE with 41 regular season starts and a rookie QB? Also, I spoke only of NFL experience, not age so where you got that little bratty whinefest question from, I'm not sure. But it does make me think you won't know the answer to my question.
The amount of experience is completely irrelevant so being a #### about it doesn't change that. The injury risk doesn't change based on experience despite what you may think. Gronkowski's last target in the game was with about 12 mins left.

Actually, the amount of experience is completely relevent, being a ####### won't change that. I guess I'll have to explain this to you like I would my g/f. The injury risk itself doesn't change in the least, you're right about that, however since I didn't say it did we once again run into the problem of you not knowing what you're talking about. The risk/reward ratio, however, changes drastically based on a player's position and experience. So, a massively gifted TE who has 2.5 years under his belt and is his team's primary scoring threat has little to gain by being in the game late in a blowout. A highly experienced multi-MVP also has little to gain or learn from being in a blowout game this late in his career. Therefore, in both cases the risk/reward ratio is far too high to keep them in the game. A rookie QB who has only 9 games under his belt has plenty to learn from staying in the game in a blowout. The amount of expereience he will gain working against a team defending a lead is invaluable to him at this stage in his development because, and here's the really important bit so I'll say it again, he's a rookie and needs as many snaps as he can get. Therefore, the risk/reward ratio is completely the opposite of a Brady or Gronk. Brady doesn't need those reps and Gronk doesn't have to deal with the same mental effort as a QB does. I could spend all night picking apart each new silly "point" you make because so far pretty much everything you've posted has been based on wrong assumptions that have no basis in what you've read. But I'll just end it with this. Who cares when his last target was? He got hurt with 4:00 left on a PAT. Hell, if for no reason than to get someone else on the team some real game reps on the PAT unit (you know, n case Gronk gets hurt or something) then he shouldn't have been out there. Him being in there was a dumb, unnecessary risk and it cost them.
