Saw an interview with James Foley after he was held captive in Lybia in 2011 where he said its not worth risking your life...and yet he went back into a dangerous area.
Bottom line was he loved what he did, wanted to report what was going on there, and knew the risks.
In the good ok' days, it was the front line war correspondents who were considered for anchor positions on the major networks. Nowadays it's all about the pretty face (NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN), or a good pair of legs (Fox).
