WiFi help needed (1 Viewer)

We moved yesterday. Moved my router and Spectrum modem. Set it all up but there was no service. Tech came out got us up and running,  TV, internet, wifi.

Didn't check anything but wifi on my phone and that we had cable tv. All good. This morning Hooked up computer and no wifi, it connects to my router but no internet. My daughter and I have wifi on our phones but my wife and the computer do not.

Any ideas?

Are you saying you get an internet connection on these devices, or you see your wifi network but still don't get internet?

Could see they were connected to my router but no internet,  only my phone was working.

Unplugged both the modem and router,  plugged the modem back in and when that was up and running connected the modem. Wallah, everything works.

Do you know what your IPv4 address is?  Sounds like you might have one that starts with 169.254, which is no bueno.  If you are on Windows 10, do a search for "cmd" and open your command window, and type and enter "ipconfig /all".  This will present you with a whole lot of jibberish, and you will want to pluck out four lines:

  1. DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : should be set to "Yes"
  2. IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : should start with "192.168", or "10.", not "169.254"
  3. Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : should start with "192.168", or "10."
  4. DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : will probably be the same as #3
If your IPv4 address starts with 169.254, try running the following two commands:

  1. ipconfig /release
  2. ipconfig /renew
... and then see what happens.  Typically, your router will assign you an IP address, but if it's set to 169.254, this is not happening.
