I love baseball but that's always been my gripe with it.....the payroll of different teams. Teams with really high payrolls, such as the Yankees and the Red Sox, should in theory be the better teams every year because they can pay to have the best talent. Now, I know that it's not quite this simple because of the luxury tax these teams pay back and the fact that they are in a bigger revenue producing market, but just same, it's not fair, IMO. I kind of like how the NFL has salary caps and it seems so much more competitive on a year to year basis.

Will the MLB ever get a salary cap?

Probably not, as the MLBPA is way too strong to allow for such a thing. If the economy continues to tank, and the owners have the balls to lock out the players, it could be a possibility, but there appears to be plenty of money to go around at this point in time(for the players).

No.

What you might see are

1) a salary cap floor

2) a tougher penalty on the luxury tax

3) a push to eliminate FA signings of amateur international players.

I don't football is a good thing to compare baseball to as football as nothing comparable to MLB's minor league system.

A third of the owners want absolutely nothing to do with revenue sharing and none of the players want a cap - no way this ever happens.
