Will Terrell Owens be back in Dallas? (1 Viewer)

Da Guru

Fair & Balanced
1. Owens has worn out his welcome with Dallas, no way Dallas wants him back.

2. There is a 50-50 chance Owens will be back in Dallas.

3. Owens will be back in Dallas despite his antics.

This was going to be a poll but I botched it.

Timeline of Terrell Owens' Antics

Wide receiver Terrell Owens has made his mark in the NFL as a great receiver, but his impact on the league hasn't always been on a positive note. About Football has put together this timeline featuring some of Owens' more infamous antics during his NFL career.

2000 - During an October contest in Dallas, Owens celebrated scoring a touchdown by running to midfield of Texas Stadium and posing on the star logo of the Cowboys. He later repeated his actions following another TD and was blindsided by the Cowboys' George Teague.

2001 - After blowing a 19-point lead in Chicago and losing in overtime, the disgruntled receiver accused head coach Steve Mariucci of protecting good friend **** Jauron, head coach of the Bears

2002 - In an October contest on Monday Night Football in Seattle, Owens pulled a 'Sharpie' marker out of his sock after catching a TD pass.

He then proceeded to autograph the ball and hand it to his financial adviser sitting in an end zone luxury suite rented by Shawn Springs, the CB he had just beaten on the play.

2002 - After scoring a touchdown in a December contest with the Green Bay Packers, Owens celebrated with a pair of Pom-Poms borrowed from a 49ers cheerleader.

2003 - Following a bumpy season that included several sideline and locker room tirades by Owens, he and the team decided to part ways.

2004 - Owens’ agent failed to meet a free agency deadline in March, making him ineligible to become a free agent. Because they retained his rights, the 49ers then traded him to the Baltimore Ravens, but Owens refused to report to his new team. He expressed his desire to play in Philadelphia with Donovan McNabb, and filed a grievance, claiming he should be granted free agency. After a series of negotiations, a deal was worked out between the three teams which sent Owens to Philadelphia where he signed a seven-year, $49 million deal against the advice of the players’ union.

2004 - In an interview with Playboy magazine, Owens said that that ex-teammate Jeff Garcia was gay, a claim he later recanted.

2004 - In a November contest with the Baltimore Ravens, after scoring a touchdown, Owens openly mocked Ray Lewis by performing the middle linebacker’s trademark celebration dance.

2004 - In a Monday Night contest later that month, Owens appeared in a controversial skit to kick off the network’s presentation of the game which resulted in an FCC investigation.

2005 - Owens hired agent Drew Rosenhaus in April and announced he was not happy with his new contract. He also tells CNBC that, despite making $7.5 million in 2004, he needs a new contract to “feed his family.”.

2005 - After hinting that he might hold out of training camp, Owens shows up with a bad attitude, refusing to acknowledge the media or speak to his teammates. After a confrontation with head coach Andy Reid, he was suspended for one week.

2005 - During an interview with ESPN's Graham Bensinger on November 3, Owens took shots at the Eagles franchise for not publicly recognizing his 100th touchdown catch. During the interview he stated the Eagles showed a "lack of class". He also suggested the Eagles would be better off with Packers QB Brett Favre instead of Donovan McNabb.

2005 - On November 4, Owens issued a half-hearted apology through the media, but failed to deliver comments regarding Donovan McNabb, which head coach Andy Reid insisted he include.

2005 - Owens was suspended November 5 by the Eagles for the club's contest against the Washington Redskins on November 6.

2005 - On November 7, Owens' suspension was stretched to four games, and head coach Andy Reid added that Owens would not play for the remainder of the season.

2006 - On March 14, the Eagles cut Owens just one day before he was due a $5 million roster bonus.

2006 - On July 5, Owens released a tell-all book revealing his side of the story associated with his time in Philadelphia.

2006 - On July 13, Owens claimed he was misquoted in his autobiography. Owens blamed the use of the word 'heroic" in association with his return for Super Bowl XXXIX on his co-author.

2006 - On August 3, Owens missed the first of 14 consecutive days of practice because of a hamstring problem despite an MRI two days later revealing no major problems. After returning to practice for several days, Owens claimed he re-aggravated the injury because his coaches pushed him back to the playing field too soon. This time he didn't return to practice until August 29.

2006 - On August 10, while still out with an injured hamstring, Owens drew attention to himself by wearing the silver and blue uniform of Lance Armstrong's Discovery Channel pro cycling team and not Cowboy team gear while riding a stationary bicycle on the sidelines.

2006 - On September 26, Owens was taken by ambulance to Baylor University Medical Center for what was thought to be a suicide attempt. The following day, Owens denied trying to kill himself, claiming a mixture of pain pills and supplements caused him to be "out of it" when talking to emergency respondents

2006 - On October 11, Owens had a run-in with receivers coach Todd Haley. After being chastised for showing up late for practice (he later explained he was in the bathroom), Owens and Haley tangled during a meeting later in the day.

2006 - On December 16, in a victory over the Atlanta Falcons, Owens spit in the face of cornerback DeAngelo Hall.

Gone from the Cowboys.

8 million saved is 8 million saved.

He and Mike Vick will be very happy together being able to browbeat a first year HC in A-T-L

Why do you say that, Big Score?

He allows Mike Vick and Ashley Lelie to disgrace Falcons uniforms. :banned:

Because Art Blank has publicly said he won't have TO or Moss wear a Falcons uniform. Not the type of people he wants representing the team. Something about their character...or lack of it

:banned: to Art Blank. Big time.Regardless of where he ends up, I think the Cowboys axe TO. Why? Because I think Parcells will return to the team.

Why would Jerry Jones want TO to leave? He's the guy calling the shots and writing the checks in Big D and he's been 100% supportive of Owens from the get-go. TO may have worn out his welcome to other folks in the organization and maybe to some teammates, but it seems that Jones has always been firmly in his corner since his signing.

This year TO has had 79 catches for 1063 yds and 12 Tds. The 12 TDs indicate a big playmaker and that's with an injured hand. An offseason to rest and rehab the hand should make Owens even better. That's the Michael Irvin point-of-view and it seems to me Jerry Jones has been drinking that same kool-aid as well.

Add to this that TO will have an offseason and preseason (whatever of that that he takes part in) to work with Romo. Drops- TO averaged 1 per game- or no drops, he is still a bonafide playmaker.

I talked to a buddy from Dallas who was at the game and he said the crowd was getting ugly toward Owens late in the game because of his constant sideline pouting. Showing up Romo.

What would TO do if Romo jumped around waving his arms and pouting every time TO drops a pass?

I think it will be one and done for Owens in Dallas.

10 teams line-up to give 8 million dollars if he is cut.

Washington,KC,San Diego, Tom Brady will make kraft at least try it. Oakland after they trade Moss. (Davis can't help himself). Houston, Maybe Favre makes it a priority in GB.

if you are 1 big time offensive weapon away from breaking through, you give him 8 million and take a shot at the Superbowl.

Why employ TO or Moss, when he can have his Head Coach emphatically state while chuckling that he'd take the Washington job in a heartbeat, and even leave his current job immediately. Blank is also the guy that employs the 200 lb wildebeast dyke at the paint department in the St. Charles Home Depot.

Reading this stuff it shocks me that some people STILL believe this crap. TO is a washed up, injury prone WR with less that aveage hands and he runs poor routes.

Dallas was the only team that went after Owens last year.

What has changed? Owens is a great WR,,but a team and coach killer.

Agree. Owens stills puts up decent stats, but I don't think he's as dominant and explosive as he once was. It seems like at Philly he was nearly unstoppable once he had the ball in his hands. I haven't seen him make those kinds of plays this year with the Cowboys. He will still find a home with some team if the Cowboys don't hang on to him. My guess is Jerry Jones loves the publicity (good or bad) and attention his team gets just by having TO on his team.

 Not a chance those three teams' HCs would allow that POS on their team. The other teams, who knows?

Regardless, I think he's out of Dallas and he's one year away from being out of the league.

I don't like TO and think he is overrated as a playmaker and WR nowadays. That said, consider what Dallas will have at WR if they let him go after this season. Glenn will be 33 when next season begins. And Crayton. And ...who? Those of you who think they will let Owens go, do you think they'll sign another FA? Or draft a first day WR?

What is the more interesting fact:

1. With 12 touchdowns, Terrell Owens still did not make the pro bowl. In fact, Roy Williams, the alternate to the pro bowl, is behind him in all categories.

2. Terrell Owens, with 15, leads the league in drops.

Either way, these facts show that people are getting sick of him and that he is getting past his prime. He is still good with the run after the catch, but the problem is him making the catch.

Just some observations, I am actually not a big TO hater.

Why all this TO bashing? He's dropped more than his share of passe. He hasn't been a huge distraction that most thought he would be, has he? He speaks his mind just like most others, but he's TO so everything gets blown-up. D. Branch dropped how many this pat weeked? Players talk all the time about not being involved, but they're not TO. I believe TO and Tuna can work together next year. How many players has Tuna had that were sort of like TO? Bill can handle TO and if Bill wants to coach next year than he will, but it will have nothing to do with TO.

 Maybe you could've said that in 2000 & before (although somehow I doubt the co-chairman of the Home Depot Board of Directors had much to do with hirings in the St. Charles paint dept), but Blank has been retired from Home Depot for awhile now Grid.

HOME DEPOT CO-FOUNDER ARTHUR BLANK TO RETIRE

02/27/2001

ATLANTA, GA -- Arthur M. Blank, co-founder and co-chairman of The Home Depot, today notified The Home Depot Board of Directors that he will not stand for re-election to the Board in 2001. He will continue to serve as co-chairman until his term ends May 30, at which time Bernie Marcus, co-founder and co-chairman, is expected to continue as chairman of the board.

Deion's nearly tearful press conference went like this: I failed as a player and a leader. We lost this game almost entirely because of me and that is unacceptable. I have to play like a leader and SB MVP because what I gave this team was not my best and not the reason they brought me here. As opposes to TO: What do you want me to do? They don't throw the ball to me enough. How do you expect me to catch it when they don't throw me the ball as much as I want. It's their own fault I dropped those passes.

Now you tell me what's the difference

He hasn't been a huge distraction that most thought he would be, has he?
Missing mini camps, TC's & pre season with a mysterious hammy injury that did not show up on multiple MRI's. Riding a stationary bike in a Tour De France cycling outfit to get the medias attention, while the rest of his teammates were busting their butts on the practice field.

Missing some rehabs for the mysterious hammy injury.

Late or missed team meetings.

Sleeping through team meetings.

OD'ed on some perscription or another.

Spitting in other players faces.

And the latest public comments blaming his drops on not getting the ball early in games (apparently TO develops brick mason hands if he's not thrown to early & often).

But yeah, other than those few things, TO has been the model teammate & no distraction at all

His antics riding a Tour De France outfit was funny. I don't see anything wrong with playing up the media. I would rather have a healthy player that will play huge role in the team getting to the playoffs then forcing him to come back yearly. So he was late for a meeting. Go find players that aren't. Everything he does gets 100% attention than a Hines Ward type. I can remember Ward complaining during the year as well.

Prescription overdose was a accident and it had no effect.

The spitting incident was bad, but lucky for him the video never showed this or it could of been worse.

This is where I'd like to quote Tom Jackson about a question he posed to Michael Irvin earlier this season. However, that word in the quote is frowned upon here.

I wish he paid that kind of attention to his customer service people.
i agree with that i think it is closer to 0 than 50 pct that he stays

;) The fact that loafing through camp and then making fun of it by donning a Team Discovery uniform, overdosing on pills enough to require hospitalization and speculation that it was a suicide attempt (followed by a surreal denial by your "publicist"), acknowledging that you sleep through meetings and then making fun of that fact by drawing a celebration penalty by using the football as a pillow, and repeatedly making excuses about other people to justify his poor performances constitutes not being a "huge distraction" would appear to be damning him with faint praise, no?

"His antics riding a Tour De France outfit was funny. I don't see anything wrong with playing up the media. I would rather have a healthy player that will play huge role in the team getting to the playoffs then forcing him to come back yearly."

The word "antics" says it all.

Cowboys team rules stated that players not in pads and rehabbing must wear Cowboy issued team sweats. There were 4-5 players rehabbing that had on Cowboy t-shirts and shorts. Owens did his own thing before the season ever started.

While you & me on the outside, might have thought the Tour De France thing was funny, I doubt his teammates, who were busting their butts in the hot summer practices, thought it was very cool to look over & see TO on the sidelines yucking it up with the media for a mysterious hammy injury that no amount of MRI's could find. And what about the missed rehabs for said mysterious hammy injury, that didn't show up any multiple MRI's?

It wasn't just one team meeting he was late for, but several. I also guess you think it's cool for him to sleep through the team meetings that he does manage to grace his presence with.

The OD was an accident huh? Yeah...Ok...whatever. I don't know anybody who can accidently choke down a whole bottle of pills. That's one whopper of an accident.

And the prescription OD had no effect? Dude, it was a freakin' media frenzy with reporters cruising the dallas facility like sharks smelling blood in the water. Parcells had to devote a lot of time & energy to damage control. That time & effort could have been better spent focusing on other more important matters...like preparing for the next game.

But hey, if you want to think his antics this year caused no distractions for the Cowboys, go ahead & knock yourself out.

We all must see how the rest of the season plays out. If the Boys are eliminated early then their will be some issues. I mean issues as to see what Jerry Jones does for the upcoming year. The coaching has been subpar at best. The defense is still very young and the Ellis injury is more a problem than most are admitting.
