Assuming the cost is affordable and the risk in line with other brain surgeries, would you have a brain chip implanted?

For completely paralyzed people like Neuralink's first patient, the answer seems like a no-brainer. But the brain chip industry has raised billions in funding. Clearly these investors think the market for brain chips is bigger than just the paralyzed population. The first implant patient said he can now play blitz chess on the computer. He beats his friends in first person shooter video games. The potential seems limited only by your imagination. With merely a thought, the lights could be turned off, doors locked, temperature adjusted, tea brewing. In the future, you might find most vendors expecting payment by chip--brain chip. You don't have a chip? What kind of Luddite are you?

His pitch was to have it for Bluetooth telephone calls. You’d have to change it overnight and have a new surgery for upgrades.

I could envision a scenario where it becomes like a smart phone and even non disabled people opt to get it. Transhumanism and all.. For myself, I'm apprehensive to even get cochlear implants but I put maybe.

I believe this is the next iteration of brain treatments. I have a friend with Parkinson’s, and he has brain implants controlled by another implant in his chest. It has helped with his shakes. As for me (with terminal brain cancer), I’m watching the developments with extracting blood/fluids from the brain, modifying it in some manner, and then reinjecting it back into the brain ..:essentially fighting the tumor (glioma) from the inside. My trick will be to stay alive long enough for that technology to be fully tested and approved.

There is an Optune cap that can be worn. I’m not sure if that works with brain implants. But it has to be worn 75% of the time, and it only adds about a month or two to survival rates.

I'm normally one who thinks the privacy paranoia is out of control and unnecessary, but going this far does give me pause.

But if it's just more overblown worry, I'd be up for it.
