William Powell (1 Viewer)

HE passed his first big test.
I think his first real test is coming...He's got the Vikings and the 49er's back to back.
I'm a huge Powell supporter and again thought he looked really good last week (regardless of the match up). I was most impressed by his shiftiness, as he looks like he can change direction with ease. He will however fail miserably against SF and MIN IMO, and should be chained to your bench unless you are absolutely desperate. If ARI could keep defenses honest, he might have a chance (like Bradshaw did last week), but they cannot. Also, no one runs on MIN, no one. ALMO scored the first TD on the ground against them all year last week, but only carried the rock 16 times for 47 yards. He had averaged 3.4, 5.6, 4.6, 5.4, and 6.4 YPC in each game before averaging 2.4 versus MIN.I'd wait until Powell faces ATL, STL and NYJ before possibly trotting him out again. Until then I'll sit back and watch.

I haven't seen the guy yet but I agree that it doesn't sound like a good situation this week.

Had LSH last week. Dropped him for Powell this week.

At the last minute I took Powell out and started Pierre Thomas as my flex. Although he didn't do much, at least I got a TD from Pierre.

What is Powell's value going forward? Is LSH the "guy" now?

If you must have one, LSH for PPR.Let Powell sit on the wire.2 weeks and we've already seen this is a hot hand situation. And it's not a exactly a great situation (with the line) to begin with.

What does the relative success of Powell and LSH, the past two weeks, say about the abilities of Wells and R. Williams?

Feeling very good about trading him earlier this week for Rashad Jennings right about now....

but still like him as a deep dynasty stash

LSH had 73 yards after contact and averaged 3.7 yards after contact per carry. He also forced 9 missed tackles by the Vike's defense.

William Powell was great in The Thin Man and Life with Father but my favorite is My Man Godfrey.

Powell received an Academy Award nomination for The Thin Man (1934) and later starred in the Best Picture winner for 1936, The Great Ziegfeld (1936). Powell could play any role with authority, whether in a comedy, thriller, or drama. He received his second Academy Award nomination for My Man Godfrey (1936) and was on top of the world until 1937, when he made his first picture with Jean Harlow, Reckless (1935). The two clicked, off-screen as well as on-screen, and shortly became engaged. One day, while Powell was filming Double Wedding (1937) on one MGM sound stage, Harlow became ill on another. She was finally taken to the hospital, where she died. Her death greatly upset both Powell and Myrna Loy, and he took six weeks off from making the movie to deal with his sorrow. After that he traveled, not making another MGM film for a year. He eventually did five sequels to "The Thin Man," the last one in 1947. He also received his third Academy Award nomination for his work in Life with Father (1947).

Godfrey: Tommy, there's a very peculiar mental process called thinking - you wouldn't know much about that - but when I was living here I did a lot of it.

The Thin Man? I thought he starred as the Invisible Man.

I am more intrigued by Howling than Powell. Howling is a guy that has been viewed more as a kick returner/3rd down back but now they have been forced to hand him the ball. He is small but this year we should all find out if he can be successful getting some regular carries.

I think both he and Powell will split the load unless one shows to be clearly a better option than the other. Howling should be guaranteed touches via return game and pass catching RB I would think.

As a LSH owner in a PPR, I was particularly intrigued that he was used in the passing game. While he has always been considered a 3rd down back, this is the first time since early in 2010 that he's had more than 2 catches in a game.

Has anyone read/heard anything as to why William Powell had no touches this weekend?

Did he even play?

Just attempting to figure out if Powell is still worth a spot at the end of a dynasty roster.

not for lack of solid play on Powell's part and general suckitude on LRSH's part...

dynasty? who knows but he could certainly be worth holding onto in re-draft. LSH has not solidified or seized the opportunity fully.

Powell's window of opportunity is slipping shut. LSH can be an exciting runner, but he lacks the size to be a 20-touch-a-game featured back. Nevertheless, based upon his 100+ yard effort a couple weeks ago, Hyphen is the back to own for the immediate future. He failed to do anything last week, but they did face a very tough SF Defense, and Powell did not get a single carry, so magically expecting Powell to now supplant LSH is probably wishful thinking on the part of Powell owners. Then again, two weeks ago LSH seemingly supplanted Powell, so it could certainly happen. Wells is scheduled to return Week #12, and from the reports I am hearing, he is chomping at the bit to go. If Powell does not make his mark in weeks 9 & 11 (Week 10 bye), it is difficult to imagine his opportunity ever getting better. Next season, Ryan Williams is back in the mix as well, so as far as Dynasty value, Powell is a dark horse. Watch carefully these next two games at the split in carries at Arizona and whether Stephens-Howling can hold up to a full load of carries.

This will go down as my favorite bandwagon of '12. Eight pages = 116 yards and 0 TDs.

Kareem Huggins thinks this guy was over-hyped.

Nevertheless, keep 'em coming. For every William Powell hype train, there is a Cecil Shorts hype train which pays off.

He had over 10 points in my league this week. Seems like an odd time to bump a thread talking about how worthless a guy is.

He had 11 yards rushing. Think he's gonna catch 6 passes every week? That was one less catch than he had all year entering the game.

His avg. is still drastically better per carry then Hyphen. 4.14 - 3.42. That difference mimics the preseason as well.On the surface it seems very odd that they didnt use him more at a time when there was opportunities and Hyphen was poor.

But there are plenty of coaching evaluations and behind the scene circumstances that makes it not all that surprising.

I think they felt that theyowed the veteran a shot, plus Powell is very green -- he only had 10 carries at K-State. That said, he still looked like the best option they had.
