Willis McGahee holdout? (1 Viewer)

Saw a blurb he might weeks ago but seemed like the author's guess. Yesterday I heard it mentioned that he might on the radio.

Anyone hear anything?

Can't believe he thinks he's done enough to warrant a contract restructure. Holding out for more (better) O linemen?

Bills not worried about no-show McGahee

Leo Roth

Staff writer

(May 26, 2006) — ORCHARD PARK — Buffalo Bills star running back Willis McGahee attended the start of the team's off-season workout program in February. He hasn't been seen at One Bills Drive since.

But his teammates and coaches can see him this week on the NFL Network, where he is co-hosting in studio with Rich Eisen from Los Angeles.

After skipping two early voluntary mini-camps conducted by new coach **** Jauron, McGahee also skipped this week's first of three consecutive blocks of voluntary organized team activity — OTAs — that wrapped up Thursday with an outdoor practice in the stadium.

McGahee wasn't the only no-show this week — 11 veterans were missing Thursday, including Troy Vincent, London Fletcher, Chris Villarrial, Aaron Schobel and Nate Clements.

But McGahee kept his streak alive of being the only veteran who has yet to make at least one spring practice where players are learning the team's new offense. Jauron expressed disappointment but not worry or anger that a player as important to the team's success as McGahee has chosen to stay away.

There is a mandatory camp June 12-14.

Playing under the terms of an incentive-laden contract he signed coming out of college with a major knee injury, McGahee's status during that camp will provide a better indication about whether he's planning a training camp holdout.

"You know what? If he's here, we'll coach him and if he's not we won't," Jauron said. "It's voluntary time. I'm not too worried about it to be honest. We wish he was here. We've called him, we've talked to him, but he's not here. He's chosen not to be here."

Jauron said McGahee indicated to him that he's working out in Miami, staying in shape and studying the new playbook but a specific reason for not attending this week's OTA wasn't provided.

"I know he's working out but quite honestly, I don't know the particulars," Jauron said. "There aren't real great reasons any player can probably give me other than family why they aren't here, because this isn't a hardship. We're teammates and we're all working toward the same thing and we just want a chance to win."

The Bills were given no notice that McGahee would be appearing on the NFL Network for three days this week until late Tuesday.

"Once they choose not to be here ... I have nothing to say about what they choose to do," Jauron said. "That's part of the collective bargaining agreement. These are voluntary (sessions)."

Eight other running backs or fullbacks were in attendance this week, including free agent veteran Anthony Thomas, who is challenging to back up McGahee.

Veteran Joe Burns said the new offense under coordinator Steve Fairchild is loaded with new terminology and McGahee is missing valuable time.

"Because it's a new offense, I'd say so," Burns said. "If it were the same offense as last year, I'd say he'd be fine, but anytime you can get together as a team it's a benefit.

"You've got to get things down to even have a chance to be successful. That's why we're using this time to learn the offense, get it down to a 'T.' But Willis is a very productive player. Once we get him and other guys in here, it will make our team that much better."

McGahee, Buffalo's first-round pick in 2003, has produced consecutive 1,100-yard seasons but is coming off a disappointing 2005 campaign in which he gained 100 yards only once in his final eight games. His average-yards-per carry dipped below 4.0 and he scored eight fewer touchdowns than the 13 he scored in 2004.

Another "U" player not attending camp, and this is considered news?

Get back in August, if he's not there for the real deal, then there's cause for concern.

Alot of players, not just Willis, aren't showing up to Bills camp. Its a case of a bad team and a bad organization, and no one being excited about what should be a horrible year for Buffalo.

really? how many do you consider "a lot"?
VETERAN NUMBERS

The vets were again well represented even though this was a voluntary camp for them. All but four veteran players were in attendance.

"I want to publicly thank our veterans," said Jauron. "This is our second voluntary minicamp and we've had an unbelievable response from them and it can only help us."

Those not attending the camp in any capacity were Willis McGahee, London Fletcher, Peerless Price and Troy Vincent.

"We would love to have him here," said Jauron of McGahee. "We would love to have everybody here. The fact is that we have so many guys here and we recognize that it is voluntary. We'd love to have him up here working with us and that's where it is. We just need to focus on the great turnout that we had."

I can't believe that Peerless Price isn't showing up. If there's one WR on the team that really needs to be showing up at everything possible, it's Price. At this rate I'm not sure that he'll even make the final team. What an idiot.

I will be STUNNED if he is a starter. I see him as WR4 right now.

well, that quote was from the 2nd OTA a few weeks ago. I think Price showed up at the one going on right now.the turnout wasn't as good at the recent one so maybe that's what Diesel was referring to. still not sure the comments were completely warranted though given that nearly everybody showed up to the last one.

Bills receiver Peerless Price arrived in town last week to begin preparation for his first OTA in his second go round with the Bills which began today in the team's fieldhouse.

"It felt good," said Price of his first practice. "I know the surroundings, I'm getting used to my teammates. So it went well."

Price got reps in the third pairing of wideouts as he begins the process of absorbing the new offense. He eventually worked his way up to the top pairing with Lee Evans as the practice session wore on. Price ran crisp routes for the majority of the workout and caught a handful of passes in 7-on-7 and team work.

Fewer Vets

In this OTA there were fewer veterans to start the week. That could change come Wednesday or Thursday, but 10 veterans, counting Takeo Spikes who would not have participated anyway, were not in attendance. They're not required to participate until the mandatory camp June 12-14, but only a handful of vets were missing from the previous camp.

Not in attendance Monday were Nate Clements, London Fletcher, Mike Gandy, Willis McGahee, Brian Moorman, Roscoe Parrish, Aaron Schobel, Spikes, Chris Villarrial and Troy Vincent.

It's now to the point where Willis is the the only vet not to show up yet for any camps.
He is also the most important player on the roster, AND he needs to learn a completely new offense. Jauron isn't happy. The players are starting to call him out now too, so it's getting ugly already.

This is just USA Today re-hashing (word for word) Roth's article from the 26th. Link They just twisted the Title slightly  Bottom line Jauron isn't any happier today, than he was on the 26th. It is definately an issue.Ron
Sonuva! :wall:
:lmao: Pick USA Today, Yahoo, CBSSportsline. Fox "Team Reports" are famous for doing this. Changing titles to put a different spin on the story, or adding a paragraph or two, to put their thoughts (speculation) into the story. If I knew these writers that do this were Fantasy Football Champions, I might be more inclined to read them. :D Ron
