Nationals acquired outfielder Wily Mo Pena from the Red Sox for a player to be named.

The Red Sox are expected to go with Jacoby Ellsbury and then Bobby Kielty as the replacement for Pena, though they could have some interest in Craig Monroe. Pena may not last in Washington, but he's likely to have a 35-homer season in the majors before the end of the decade. He's still just 25 years old. Nook Logan, Ryan Langerhans and Ryan Church will lose at-bats to him.

Craig Monroe would be well suited in that park...He hits alot of 280 foot fly balls to left.

Wow Epstein really pooched this one. He gave up a good young starter with a cost efficient contract in Arroyo for this heel.
Looked like a great trade at the time and everyone agreed. No one saw Bronson's huge year last year coming. Came back to earth big time this year. Many players just can't take the heat in Boston and Pena's one of 'em. He'll be decent elsewhere. I can't fault Theo for bad luck.

Not to mention the benefit of AL pitchers going to the NL.Ask Clemens, Pettitte, Lowe, Pedro Martinez, Randy Johnson, and others.

never really understood why Pena never developed. Loved that guy when he was younger. :towelwave:
My details on this are sketchy, but the contract he signed called for him to be in the majors for a specific minimum amount of time, and he had to be called up in September. So he lost a little development time in the minors.
