My son is trying to delete Epic Games Launcher from his PC because Fortnite isn't operating correctly and he wants to reinstall it.  However, when he tries to uninstall Epic Games, he receives a message that says, "Epic Games Launcher is currently running.  Please close it before continuing."  The program is not in the task manager, nor has it been started.  In fact, there's nothing in the Task Manager.

I started the PC in safe mode, and attempted to uninstall Epic Games, and got the following message: "The Windows Installer service could not be accessed.  This can occur if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed.  Please contact your support personnel for assistance." 

Any ideas?

Throw it out and buy a new computer.

Buy Epic and fire the department responsible for admin of the game launcher.

Figured it out.  Went into "more details" in Task Manager and found it was running in the background even though we'd never started it.
