Russell Wilson looked very comfortable in the pro style offense Paul Chryst runs. A difference from last year that I noticed is they use the shotgun more. One other plus of having Wilson is his speed and movement in the pocket (2 carries for 64 yards). The line looks just as good if not better than last year and the backs(Ball and White) look much improved, in shape and matured. They scored with absolute ease going up 37-3 by the half. Five TD drives(missed extra point) and one field goal in a half ain't to shabby. One person who also looked much improved was Nick Toon. He went up and got one in the first half displaying great hands and also adjusting beautifully to the ball when it was in the air. Wilson showed his trust for him by throwing him that deep ball when he was covered. An Interesting QB-WR combo to keep an eye on.
Defense= C
I won't lie I'm a bit worried. I know they have the talent at linebacker, but they looked out of sorts and uncomfortable tonight. The Rebels offense((who is less that stellar) consistently moved the ball on them, while breaking multiple tackles on multiple plays. The missed tackles were by everyone also from the line to the linebackers to the secondary, all not at the level they should be. I guess you can say I'm being pessimistic considering they won 51-17 and only allowed 3 points in the first half, but if they don't buck up before Big Ten play, could be one or two disappointing losses on the horizon. A bright spot tonight was Louis Nzegwu who recorded 2 sacks and looked to be solid against the run as well. All in all my gut tells me they will pull it together eventually. Mike Taylor and Chris Borland have all the talent in the world to be difference makers, just might take a few games.
Special Teams= B-
Ugh, missed extra point? I'm a little confused as to why they benched Phillip Welch over a Freshman(Kyle French) . I will keep the faith in the badgers though, they know what they are doing and hopefully it was just first game jitters. French did comeback and knock in a 29 yarder so we'll just have to wait and see on him.
Overall= B+
Love what happend, love the TDs , LOVE the packed Camp Randall Stadium. Quite frankly , Wisconsin was just better than UNLV and it was obvious from the first snap. Although I have some opinions about tonights game, I dont think its a good idea to judge to quickly on anything considering the quality of competition. Gotta wait till october 1st(Nebraska) to find out what the Badgers are really made of. Fun night , Lots of TDs, what else could you ask for?
