Oklahoma man beheads woman, stabs 2nd victim during workplace fight at food plant
Police said Alton Nolen burst into a Moore, Okla., food distribution center just after he was fired and beheaded 54-year-old Colleen Hufford. He injured a second woman before an off-duty cop at the plant shot him and ended the rampage. Police said he did not know either of his victims. He’s expected to survive.
On the day he was fired, a disgruntled Oklahoma food plant employee savagely beheaded a coworker and stabbed another — before the company's COO took down the attacker and stopped the rampage, police said. Alton Nolen stormed into Moore's Vaughan Foods Thursday afternoon and attacked the first two people he could find, Sgt. Jeremy Lewis said at a Friday press conference. Workers at the plant said Nolen tried to convert them to Islam before the attack,
KFOR reported, and some witnesses said he was shouting Islamic phrases during the attack. The FBI is investigating those claims.
Police said the 30-year-old was fired earlier in the day and left the plant in his SUV, but quickly drove back to begin his rampage. Around 4 p.m., Nolen barged into the warehouse and started attacking 54-year-old Colleen Hufford. He stabbed her neck and severed her head, Lewis said. Then, he stabbed a second worker, 43-year-old Traci Johnson, police said. She was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. As Nolen was attacking Johnson, Vaughan Foods' chief operating officer Mark Vaughan, began shooting at the stabber, stopping the rampage. Vaughan is a reserve county officer with the force.
Nolen was taken to a hospital and underwent surgery for multiple bullet wounds. He is expected to survive,
Oklahoma City's News 9 reported.
About 300 workers were in the plant at the time of the attack. While all three worked at the same plant, Nolen did not personally know either of his victims, Lewis said. “They just happened to be in his way as he came in upset," he said.
It's not clear why Nolen was fired or how long he had worked at the plant. Nolen has a long history with police starting in 2011. He was previous arrested on a slew of charges, including possession of a controlled substance, assault and battery on a police officer and escape from detention.
