Interesting sidenote, Giants won 92 games to the Rangers 90 so would have had homefield advantage in the World Series. Under the new system however, I think they should make Brian McCann a guest of honor for game 1.

FixedETA: Giants in 6

Wash says he's starting Guerrerro in one of the games against Lincecum and Cain, which probably isn't a good idea given that a) Murphy hits RHP's just as well as Vlad, b) Guerrerro has flagged badly in the 2nd half, and c) obviously, Murphy is a better defensive option.

Texas in 7.

Rangers in 6.

A gem by Lee, a hidden gem by Wilson or Lewis, a slugfest win in Arlington, and one of those WTF wins that makes you think this team is just destined this year.

I would not be surprised if Lee turns in a subpar performance for him in either game 1 or 5. Not counting on 2 wins by him at all.

Does not matter to me. Just as long as it wasn't the Yankees and Phillies. We all win.
:scared: Some of you guys are just sad.I'll take the Rangers in 6 or 7. They are just too much fun to not root for right now.
I honestly can't think of one thing I dislike about the current Rangers squad.
Definitely rooting for them, but I don't like Nelson Cruz. And while I completely respect his ability, I'm not in love with Cliff Lee. Seems like kind of a jerk sometimes. Now Hamilton on the other hand is my favorite non-Yankee in baseball. And I don't know how you can't root for guys like Andrus, Young, Vlad, Neftali, Molina, etc.

This biased homer doesn't think Texas has seen pitching like this yet...and takes the Gmen in 6. Should be fun.

Both these teams have a feeling of destiny this year. It's going to be an exciting series.

As a Mets fan, of course realizing how pathetic they are, this could not have worked out any better.

Rangers in 7

Who the hell knows.

Tend to think that this one goes 6. Game 1 winner loses game 5 and it's Game 2,3,4 that decide it.

I don't even know who the second starter is for the Giants yet. Got some reading to do.

Even on the West Coast, the Giants are old school legit baseball who haven't won it since 54. Rangers still seem like an expansion team. Gotta root for the Giants....although I think the Rangers are going to flatten them.

Im on board with Dr. D since he predicted this back in July and since he's going with the Giants, I bet on them to win the series, and I think it'll go 7.

The rangers have good pitching and a complete offense which scores in every possible way (speed, small ball, power and average). I expect an entertaining series starting with the 1st game pitching match-up. I'll go Texas in 6 and hoping for Texans in 4 since I am ticketed for that game.

Problem is they are Philadelphia lite with less hitting, speed and pitching. The Lee factor will play heavy since they can use him right out of the gate, but all the things people thought the Phillies would do to the Giants didn't happen. The reason is because the Giants are a perfect long series team with the key components needed to win in the playoffs: Couple of heavies (Posey and Huff), a bunch of good compliment players, great starting pitching and a very good bullpen. I love this World Series though because these two teams have already pulled huge upsets and no one thought they'd be here. I think after the game 1 jitters, they will play pretty loose and this will be a six or seven game series and very entertaining.

Giants in seven, I hope I hope I hope.

Starting pitching is close to a wash, maybe a slight edge to the Giants. Rangers offense is superior, Giants bullpen is superior. Key to this series for the Giants is to hold the line while the starters are in and hope to mash the non-Feliz relievers. Giants do indeed seem like a team of destiny, I hope it keeps up for another 4 games.

Link? Pretty sure you'd be singing a different tune if NYY had pulled the trigger for him and were going to the WS this year.
 Pretty sure I wouldn't be. I don't have a link. That's why I said "seems like".And you obviously haven't paid attention to my posts over the years about the Yankees. I'm glad they didn't get him, and posted as much in the Lee trade thread. I'd rather them miss the World Series and get a full career of Jesus Montero than trade what could be a special player for one postseason run. And I don't want the Yankees to sign him this offseason, as great as he is. It's much more fun to win with our own guys.I'm about as fair as it gets both for and against the Yanks. I absolutely hated Sheffield with the heat of a thousand suns, especially when he was on the Yanks. I was also probably harder on A-Rod than anyone on this board during his postseason struggles. Mussina was pretty surly with the media for a long time, and Teixeira comes across as something of a phony. Is that better?I'm not talking about Lee the pitcher, just that in interviews, his on-field demeanor, etc, he seems very Mussina-like. Not easy for me to root for guys like that. Don't take it personally.

Bolded doesn't sound accurate. We know the postseason stats favor the Rangers, so let's just look at the regular season...Batting average:

Rangers .276 (1st in AL)

Phillies .260 (12th in NL)

Runs:

Rangers 787 (5th)

Phillies 772 (7th)

Slugging:

Rangers .419 (9th)

Phillies .413 (12th)

Steals:

Rangers 123 (7th)

Phillies 108 (10th)

I am guessing that if the Phillies used a DH, they close the gap in BA and Steals, and probably reverse the Slugging/Runs comparisons.

Maybe, but that's why I included the league ranks. That shows how they each compared to other teams playing under the same rules. And FWIW, if you remove the pitchers from the Phillies BA equation it goes up to .269.

Lincecum looked far from dominant against the Phils. Sanchez looked pretty bad. Cain awesome in his one outing.

All 3 will have to be top notch to beat this Ranger team. That offense just keeps coming and coming at you.

No rooting interest, just want to see as many entertaining games as possible.

Rangers in six. Vlad is MVP

No offense Mike, but when was the last time the Yankees won with their "own guys"?

Wrong thread but it probably depends slightly on your definition. Yankee haters want to go so far as to hate on draft picks taht "would only sign with the Yankees," so to some they have never had any. But, I'm guessing most somewhat rational people on that side would have a hard time attacking the 1996-2000 teams nearly as much as the teams post 2001 when the checkbook exploded.

So you are comparing a NL and AL team with regular season numbers? Why? You are assuming a lot of things here, most notably you are assuming that the Rangers hitters have faced a similiar situation at some point which they haven't. They aren't running against Jorge Posada, they aren't using a DH in SF and they haven't been hitting in a negative HR/X-base park like they will at AT&T. Texas was 33-54 this year when scoring four runs or less, we'll see how they handle playing in one run games that are 3-2 with a shaky bullpen.

Wait, why are we looking at the phillies exactly? Some of the Rangers stats are skewed. They outright let guys sit on the DL for long stretches when it was obvious the Angels weren't going to come back. They let Chris Davis work as an everyday 1B for far too long which was basically no better than letting a pitcher bat (seriously). There wasn't much pushing this thing for monthlong stretches. Those are generally the reasons given for why the AVG is not commensurate with the other totals.

Not attacking those 90s Yankee teams at all. But that a decade ago. I don't see how any Yankee fan today can look at that team and say these our "our guys." The "Core Four" really can't be said to be the biggest contributors to this team anymore (other than Rivera). Even those guys are only still "your guys" because they have been overpaid for what they actually do on the field now (again, except for Rivera).Like you said, wrong thread.

I'm not taking it personally at all, Mr. Lee and I are not related in any way.If it's "more fun to win with your own guys", the last WS must have been pretty miserable for you. But I assume this means that you'd be in favor of a salary cap/floor, which is good. :lmao:

It's great to see two teams and cities who have had very little to celebrate about get a chance at it. This is the kind of Series that lets me dream about seeing my crappy team get their shot at it one day after years of misery.

That said, I think the line and various talking heads are wildly underestimating the Rangers. They won 90 despite enormous injury problems in the heart of their order, and they've only had Lee since July (and he sucked for about a month). They are way better than your standard 90 win team. In contrast, the Giants are basically the same team they were in April, with the exception of Ross- admittedly a big exception in the playoffs so far but that's a pretty small sample size.

Rangers in 5, winning the two Lee starts and getting two of the other three.

WTF? Their best hitter came to the team in late May.

Yeah, they've turned over quite a bit. Torres' breakout was huge. Sanchez/Uribe is an upgrade over Uribe/Renteria, I guess. Burrell is an upgrade over DeRosa, Posey is an upgrade over Molina, Ross is an upgrade over Bowker. That said, their offense still is nowhere near as good as SF's, and whomever they start at DH in Tex. is going to be ugly.

I'm mostly with Funke here. I went Rangers in 6 but 5 wouldn't surprise me. They seem better to me in most facets, plus they have Jesus and GWB.I've been wrong all month though.
