Pretty amazing.  This lady was born in 1899!  The 19th century.  Incredible to imagine all the world events that have occurred in her lifetime.

She was literally a 1st generation non-slave African American.

Her secret to a long life?  Bacon! Now that's something I can get behind.

For all you retirement planners out there who worry about "how much is enough", you might have to re-extrapolate your data to 116.:)

Has anyone else noticed that whenever the Guinness people name someone the "oldest person in the world" they die within a year or two?   Curse? Conspiracy?

Little known factoid. For a short period of time in the early 80s, I was actually the world's youngest person.

True story.

World's Heaviest Twins are dead now too. Nice going ###holes!
Back in the day the "cool", independent record store in town was World Records.  I was friends with most of the guys that worked there.   My buddy and I would call them up when we were bored:

Clerk:  Thank you for calling World Records, how can I help you?

Me:  Yeah, how much did the fattest twins weigh?/What's the tallest building in the world?/Can you send someone over to measure my fingernails?

They would also get calls from people asking for copies of birth certificates and property deeds.

She was known as “T” (short for auntie) to her 100 nieces and nephews. Jones did not leave behind any children. She was married for a few years.

She was one of 11, and each of her 10 siblings had 10 children of their own, crazy.

that is so immature.  I'd never do anything like that.

One of my grandmothers lived to be 108.  My other just turned 102

My sister may need to heed these words...

(yeah I know, cool story bro)

This woman lived healthily for ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTEEN FREAKING YEARS... through Civil Rights debacles, riots, depressions, great recessions, the blackout, crack, the death of good hip hop... and NOW she goes? Clearly the changes in the neighborhood were too much stress.  Damn hipsters.

That's actually pretty remarkable imo. Wonder what the odds of having 2 grandparents live past 100 are?
Its crazy to think about.  One of my grandfathers died at 98 or 99 as well, the other at 88 or so I think.

But I am just so happy my 7 year old daughter got to meet both her great grandmothers.  Doesnt happen a lot, esp when 1 was 100 years older then her.

She would have graduated in what, 1917? Did a lot of women graduate HS back then? She was probably one of the first women to ever graduate HS.
wtf
Somebody asked, in what I assume was a joke, what was incredible about a woman graduating high school. My poor attempt to make another joke was that this woman was so old she was probably one of the first women to ever graduate. Obviously not good at jokes, especially online.
