One particular league drives me crazy because the owners can never agree on anything. As evidence of their "super-anal" behavior, consider this rule and the history behind it.

In a redraft format, they decided to draw cards to determine the draft order. The first guy to choose was fortunate to draw the "Ace" and get the first pick in the draft. Foul! Was the general outcry. What gave this team the right to choose the first card? The cave men argued for 1/2 hour in a heated discussion clearly lacking in mathematical comprehension.

The conclusion? We now draw cards to determine the order for drawing cards to determine the order for the draft!

While not uncommon, our league did not have a Wildcard. After it KILLED a team one year, the rule should have been changed but we are a pretty slow group over.

The lack of the Wildcard is not that crazy, but resulted in the two incidents happening over the past 5 years.

A few years ago, one team LED THE LEAGUE IN POINTS AND DIDN'T MAKE THE PLAYOFFS. They were lumped into the division that had three teams at the way top, and one game behind and with a good amount of bad luck (losing games by 1 point, having the second highest score of the ENTIRE SEASON one week only to face the team with the HIGHEST score of the season!). At least this team got the $$ for most points scored.

Then, last year, a team goes 5-8 and WINS THE SUPERBOWL! Yup, because our team never reacted to the situation a few years ago, a 5-8 makes it to the playoffs while far better teams are left out, then gets three wins in a row and wins the bowl! Because of tie breakers, this team could have been 4-9 and made it but won their last game of the year even though it wasnt necessary.

Now, the karma involved is that the team that got screwed because of not wild card was also the team which ended up with two grand in their pockets last year with a 5-8 record. What is better, is those were my pockets... what is best, is that our league FINALLY addressed this idiotic rule and put in WCs this year.

We have 14 starting slots and 4 bench slots. And if you're 2nd starting TE is on bye you're required to drop someone to pick up a TE that will play rather than just leaving in the player on bye.

this is why more leagues should do all-play. that is, you play head-to-head every team every week (ie - 11 games per week). in order for you to end up with a winning record at the end of the season, you had to be better than average for more weeks than the other guys. problems solved, and it's actually healthier for you as a football fan because now you don't have any reason to "boo" your opponents players -- only cheer for your own!

That's one of the things that make the concept so laughable. Apparently, the two levels of "randomness" is enough to keep them happy. I can tell you from first hand experience it's painful to draw the Ace in the first pass just to get the right to draw the Queen first.

I agree. Head coaches as a fantasy position lend themselves to the skilled owner predicting results much better than predicting individual players do.Unless we're against rules where football acumen is able to differentiate itself, why on earth would this be a bad rule, let alone worst ever?

Let's see if I can explain this. We have a 6-person keeper in which you lose the round that you originally picked a player (I'm keeping Benson who I drafted in the fifth last year, so I lose my 5th). The draft is the same order throughout, worst-place last year to the SB champ. So the worst team has a better pick every round than the SB winner. A few years ago, people were trading in the rounds they were keeping a player, with people who were keeping a player in the third, for example, trading their higher pick in the round to someone with a lower pick in the round. It degenerated in to everyone trying to leapfrog others to get to the front of a a round. So, we tried to make a rule that you couldn't keep someone in a pick that was not yours, unless you had two picks in that round. Needless to say, my head is spinning from typing this, no one knows what we can and can't do and there are two guys in the league that have had to rework a trade five times because they were trading picks they didn't have and couldn't understand how to make the deal legal. This is something we have to address.

Every team may submit a backup QB during each week of the season. The owner must post the name of their Backup QB for the week on the message board or a designated area of the league's MFL site. The points for this backup QB may be used in the event that the team's starting QB leaves the game for any reason.

Any points scored by a backup QB will be added to the team's score by the commissioner.

It is the owners’ responsibility to notify the commissioner in the event that a B/U QB is called upon to enter a game and he would like those points added to his score for that week. In addition, the owner of the opposing team may notify the commissioner that he would like his opponents B\U QB points be added to his opponents score for that week. The owner (or opposing owner) must compute his (his opponents) BU QB points, using NFL.COM, and post in a thread provided on the message boards he would like the commissioner to adjust his (or his opponents) score for the week and post the points total as calculated by him no later then Weds., 12:00.01 AM (EST). The commissioner will then check the point total calculation, post any discrepancies found, and adjust the score for that week. If no post is made by the deadline, the B\U QB’s points will not be used for that week.

The points are calculated as follows: If the owner designates a backup QB which is the actual NFL backup of their starting QB, in the event that the backup enters the game, the points will begin immediately. However, should the owner designate another starting NFL QB as their starter's backup, that QB's points would only be counted for the quarter following the quarter in which the QB left the game.

How? You usually only draft one coach do you know who is going to be good ever year from year to year you have an idea but do you know who is going to win week 15 when you are drafting? No you have no clue and uts not like you can draft 3 or 4 of them to switch them around.Random luck

Sup swirv...It adds strategy from this perspective. Everyone knows that Belichick, Turner, Dungy and Lovie Smith each coach teams which figure to win a LOT of games this season. So you have a good shot of getting 5 points from each of them on most weeks. So where should they be drafted???As far as who will win in week 15... hell, just look at the schedule. You can make an educated guess as to which teams are going to be a 4 point underdog or an 11 point favorite during that week, no?

We have always done that. But never was it an arguement or a "foul". When we first had the cards one of us stated "only the guy with the first pick gets an assured chance at any pick he so desires". Thus two card draws became accepted, unanimously, from the very first draft. We usually have the last two super bowl teams shuffle and cut and hand out cards (face down) to each of the teams for the first drawing, so it takes like 20 secs. Then we do the 3 card monty with the draft order cards on a big meeting table for all to walk up and select.Worst rule? 8AM draft time. Even though the draft does last 6+ hours.

Wow. Ours used to take that long but now we finish in 3.5 hours (including a 20-30 min break). We changed ours from noon to 2pm this year and it worked out fantastic.

Wow. Ours used to take that long but now we finish in 3.5 hours (including a 20-30 min break). We changed ours from noon to 2pm this year and it worked out fantastic.

How many and how long? 16 teams 32 rounds.And we take an hour break for lunch. So about 4hours and 30 minutes on drafting, with 30+ minutes for set up. It comes to just over 45 seconds a pick throughout - for 512 picks.The league also does a lot of trading. Not bad for a bunch of mid-morning drunks.
