Would you drop any of these guys to make room for S. Baker? (1 Viewer)

I have until the end of the day to either activate Scott Baker or drop him. His first start last week was awful though I dismissed it as rust. He's starting v. Boston today so I'll have a chance to get a look at him before making a final decision. I can only roster 5 SPs, I curretnly have these 5 active:

Johan

Bedard

Volquez

Slowey

Chris Young

Would you dump any of these guys to make room for Baker? I guess for the sake of this thread assume Baker has a decent start tonight, something lke 6 IP, 3 ER, 5 K - and most importantly no evidence of lingering health concerns.

No, at this point I wouldn't take Baker over any of those guys regardless what kind of start he has tonight. You have an excellent stable of pitchers there and Baker has been giving up the HR WAY too often all spring.

See if you can do a 2 for 1 trade and upgrade somewhere else to open up a roster spot. You might package him with Chris Young and get a pitcher that is better than either of them and you'd be better off. Get something for Young while his value is decent.

 As an extreme fly ball pitcher in Petco, Chris Young offers one of the better, if not the best WHIP values in the game, his K rate is decent, and ERA adequate. A 2 for 1 may be a good idea, but with that strong of line up now I wouldn't want to risk the damage Baker can do on my roster if he keeps playing the way he is. Young will have a few extremely bad games, but he more than makes up for it with his high quality starts the rest of the time.Over the last 6 seasons, including when he played for the Rangers (672 innings) Chris Young has a cumulative WHIP of 1.19.Find me any other guy available after the first few rounds with that kind of pedigree.

I really like Baker and I would have a hard time not finding a way to hang on to him, regardless of what he does tonight. But with only 5 SPs on the roster, I think I'd have to leave him on waivers. He's the most likely to be still around later if another Sp gets hurt and loses his stuff.
