Would you rather have a higher draft spot or draft next to a guppy (1 Viewer)

Sweet Love

IBL Representative
We "rolled the bones" tonight and were assigned our draft order in a ten team, TD-heavy/100 yard bonus league. I made a side bet with one of my buddies at the beginning of the season last year that whoever has the highest scoring second round pick in 2006 can dictate once the draft order is set in 2007, which position he wants to draft from (obviously just his or mine)...I won this (thanks, Fast Willie) and now have the choice of drating from the 5 spot or the 7 spot.

I am not too happy with either of the choices, but was leaning towards taking his 5 spot when it dawned on me that the guy picking in the 8 spot is in his first year of FF (last minute substitution). Everyone else in the league is at least a 10 year vet and now I have the potential of having the newbie pick in front of me everyother round.

Am I ready too much into the potential of drafting next to a guppy? Has anyone ever had a situation like this? Can it be a feast? I actually like spot # 7 better than 5 because I think there will be more value for me in Round 2, versus what I would lose by drafting in the first round in the 7 spot versus the 5 spot. Any help would be appreciated, but I would love to spark some conversation as to whether it helps drafting next to a guppy.

I don't think it matters that much that you're right after the guppy, or a few picks later every other round. Even though I don't think the guppy's position matters much, I still like 7. You're going to still get Parker, Addai, Westbrook or Alexander; and any of these could put up Top 5 numbers this year.

5 is the way to go in a standard seprentine. You get your choice of some of the big gun (top 8-9) RBs.
I agree that I get my choice at those 8-9 top RBs, but regardless, I get one from the 7 spot. Then on the flip side (at the 14th overall pick), I may be able to get someone that dropped like Maroney or even a Henry, where I would have less of a chance of nabbing a guy like that at the 16th overall pick.

Great topic...I would rather draft next to the guppy. Guppies give great gifts.
I am kind of thinking the same thing. There has to be a sense of relief (and even value) in having the one guppy in the entire league drafting next to you, right?

Yeah, but you get what they leave you, as opposed to what you conclude is better. And it is at this moment that you will gain your single biggest statistical advantage for the entire season.

10 team league? My bad.

Had I realized that I wouldnt have posted. My apologies.

I must have read over the "ten" look for 10 or 12.

Really sorry about that.

with all of the info. on Internet sites suck as that, even a guppy can weed his woy thorugh the first 5 rounds...

Pick #5 or pick #7 next to weak drafter in a regular serpentine draft

bingo

picks 678 are the best spots this year anyway..and if a guppie around you even better..always seems tobe a great player avaialbe to you at those spots and your pick is always coming up..love those spots this year

LOOK AT ME!!! I'M SO COOL I CAN'T BE BOTHERED WITH 10-TEAM LEAGUES!!!
Im just not very qualified to say one way or the other involving its strategy. Did I disparage his 10 team league? Did I speak bad of it? No, you did. I dont like or play in 10 teamers, so Im not the best to give advice, thats all.And there is likely significant differences, as there is certainly big differences between 12, 14 and 16 team leagues.
