Would you vote for Rudy Giuliani? (1 Viewer)

He was very competent as a governor. Politics is too much about appearances and what the candidates says; not enough about what they do. I think Rudy would be a great president. But he'll never get elected.
rudy is not the kind of guy that plays well with others. he's the perfect guy for the imperial presidency. with obama opening the door for more executive orders to be issues because congress is a ####show, rudy would have no qualms about running the country *his* way.

despite the regular Fox appearances, he's not conservative or "independent" - *coughcoughcough* - to please the GOP voters. he's hawk-ish in a time when most americans don't want that. he was surprisingly tone-deaf on matters of race as a mayor and it would seem that it hasn't changed.
That would make sense except that Obama is closing the door for less executive orders, to continue using your analogy. But other than being completely wrong on that, carry on.

you think the GOP will swear off Executive Orders somehow? they won't resort to *anything* to advance their political agenda somehow? i got to tell you, man, the gov't shutdown over the debt ceiling would seem to indicate otherwise. all bets are off these days, i think. the president can't trust congress - neither party has his back - and they don't trust the him/her.

Of course not. But Obama has shown the most restraint when it comes to executive orders in the history of the modern Presidency, so he isnt "opening the door for more executive orders".

causation is not correlation.

"restraint" is a funny turn of phrase here. some observers would call it passivity on the part of this president. i can appreciate how he has been deferrential to congress, especially within those in the democratic leadership, but this is just another example of his style of leadership. i'm sympathetic to the president in this instance because of the epic gridlock in congress. i don't think gridlock will magically go away with the incoming congress. i don't think it will go away with a new - GOP or Dem - president either.
