WR Chris Olave, NO (1 Viewer)

Ruggs was driving 156MPH and had a blood alcohol level of .16%, can’t understand why his name is being brought in this thread.
I brought it up because the context of “NFL player” and “reckless driving” is consistent.

the NFL is consistently inconsistent, but when things are in the news about their players, they sometimes come down harder when recent examples are on display.

Seems pretty obvious to me.

Still don't think the league is going to do anything to Olave ... but two things slightly work against Olave by giving the league a hint of cover to levy punishment:

a) Olave had an earlier speeding ticket in the same area in August. That one did not make the news. However, the local PD considers this week's arrest a second offense.
b) The local PD released body cam footage of the arrest. It's not really compelling video -- you can see someone under arrest but it's not apparent that it's an NFL player. Still, if someone at the league office gets a wild hair that this video sullies "the shield" ... who knows?

Really, nothing beyond maybe a fine should come of this as far as league discipline goes. "Should" being the operative word.
1. I believe he’ll get a fine.
2. Re body cam footage, Olave says he’s a Saints player. Whoopsies
I got pulled over for speeding once. I told the officer I was a Postal Worker. He let me go.

Bwahahaha. I thought it was a joke tweet, but I guess it's something? Don't know what unrealized air yards actually is. Ha ha

Chris Olave ranks 1st in unrealized air yards

Trade for him NOW. Better days are ahead.

I mean, my intuitive guess would be "cumulative depth of targets that were not caught". But that doesn't seem to exactly be a positive or negative thing in my estimation. Needs more context. If you fail to catch 25 passes at 4 yards deep, that's very bad performance, but shows they are going to you a lot. If you fail to catch 4 passes at 25 yards deep, they are likely more excusable, but doesn't show that they're going your way significantly more than is evident by your actual receptions and receiving yards. Either way it would be 100 unrealized air yards, if I'm assuming the correct definition.

I was pulled over by CHP on the way to my farmers market one morning at 06:10 AM.

Came up to the car, asked for license & reg. Gave it to him.

Officer asks, "so how's the hot sauce?"

I said "100+ national awards, sauce on Hot Ones"

He asks how much. I tell him. He pulls out a $20, says "gimme your best 2 & keep the change" and handed back my DL & Reg

Best exchange I've ever had after being pulled over for 15 mph over the limit.

Video of him arrested and cuffed. As someone who has been in law enforcement for most of his life for some people this provides a wake up call. Not saying he needed one, just saying it's a humbling experience.

“You gonna arrest me?”
Cop: yep.
“Oh my bad. I play for the saints”
Cop: and?

Olave really thought that was gonna be a get outta jail free card.

Double the speed limit = reckless

He’s lucky it didn’t end up like Ruggs. Olave gotta read the room. He’s mos def getting suspended. My guess is 2 games.
He won’t get suspended for points on his record. Addison 140 in a 55MPH was
The best thing is that it's been 24 hours and we got no new information. Meaning, in the end, it's just a really bad speeding ticket. Onward Olave. Continue to get your targets and for goodness sake build some type of rapport with Carr, because he ain't going anywhere this year.
not on the injury report today for his toe or a DNP personal. So he should be good to go. Now whether Carr can hit him is a different story.

WR/CB matchups to target

WR CHRIS OLAVE, NEW ORLEANS SAINTS @ CB DARRELL BAKER JR., INDIANAPOLIS COLTS

Chris Olave (75.4 PFF receiving grade) has failed to clear 15.0 half-PPR points since Week 1, but Week 8 offers a bounce-back opportunity against an Indianapolis secondary missing Nos. 1 and 2 perimeter cornerbacks Dallis Flowers (70.1 PFF coverage grade, injured reserve) and JuJu Brents (67.7 PFF coverage grade, Week 7 quadriceps strain). Olave is a back-end WR1 with long-touchdown upside.

Indianapolis’ opponents average 72.6 offensive plays per game against them, the second most in the NFL.

New Orleans’ interior offensive line’s matchup is made easier by starting nose tackle Grover Stewart‘s (64.1 PFF pass-rush grade, suspension) and backup Eric Johnson’s (62.4 PFF pass-rush grade, ankle sprain) looming absences.

Olave’s elite usage signals an impending fantasy-point outpouring. Among 34 NFL wide receivers with at least 140 first-read receiving snaps, Olave’s 58 first-read targets ranks second and his 28.6% first-read target rate ranks seventh.

Olave’s 61.1% pre-snap-alignment perimeter rate grants access to cornerbacks Darrell Baker Jr. (29.5 PFF perimeter-coverage grade) and Jaylon Jones (58.6 PFF perimeter-coverage grade). Among 67 cornerbacks with at least 55 perimeter coverage snaps, Baker ranks outside the top 60 in targeted rate (39.7%), yards allowed per coverage snap (3.98) and explosive pass plays allowed rate (10.3%). Jones is an inexperienced seventh-round rookie.

Olave’s 4.39-second 40-yard-dash speed and sixth-ranked 28.4% deep-target rate pair perfectly with Indianapolis’ 19 explosive pass plays allowed to opposing wide receivers on 15-plus-yard downfield targets, tying for the sixth most in the NFL.

Among 57 NFL safeties with at least 25 wide receiver coverage snaps on 15-plus-yard downfield targets, Indianapolis free safety Rodney Thomas II’s (59.0 PFF coverage grade) 6.5% explosive pass plays allowed rate is the eighth highest.

New Orleans’ near-league-leading target earner is a half-PPR WR1 against Indianapolis’ vulnerable secondary.

He’s one of those looks good on paper but fails to deliver in real life results type of guys.

Could be the QB factor but real WR1 can overcome these obstacles and still produce.

Hold on a second, how did he know you're Hot Sauce Guy? Do you wear a t-shirt that has it silk screened on it?

I was driving my company van. Huge logos on the side & back.

The one on the back is 1/2 the size as the ones on the sides.

And yes, as a matter of fact I do wear company logo’d gear. lol

For some reason I was expecting a “bat mobile” type vehicle. With hot sauce dispensers at the ready.

Surely I’m not the only one

While Olave may not be elite he is very good. His QB is hurting him a lot right now.
Exactly. People act like they drafted him in the first round. For most, he was a 3rd round pick. While I would like more, I’m not unhappy with what he has produced. The one game when Carr played hurt was bad, but the rest have been OK at worst. 3rd round WRs have some bust games. So do 1st round WRs.

No, but that would be super dope.

Christian Josiah Olave

Personally, I'd start with dropping the first name and using the awesome middle name.

Chris is pretty pedestrian; how about showing that you're something out of the ordinary?
  • 3 g 32 targets 22-302-0 seem like Josiah kind of numbers

  • 4 g 36 targets 17-169-1 is the kind of production a Chris will give you
The former is Weeks 1-3, the latter weeks 4-7.

Come on Josiah, get it together, man.

Don't get it. Dude clearly doesn't suck. He's torn plenty of defenses up. Carr's just that bad, huh...
Olave lost track of a likely TD pass in the air in the third quarter. Hit him right in the helmet, according to the radio call (was driving, not watching).

Carr went right back to Olave after the almost-TD, but it was another incompletion. Not sure if Olave had had any targets since then.

Had a feeling that the Colts were going to get beat deep today, but those went to Shaheed instead. This guy may be unstartable at this point.

Wasn't pretty but 9 targets is 9 targets. Is he mentally strong enough to get over the speeding arrest and recent lack of production? Who knows. Got the physical talent. There is a fine line between being a true #1 wr and a good compliment to a #1. Gut check time kid

Speeding ticket is not even the issue here. He hasn’t had that dog in him since the start of the season. He is what he is. Eventually Saints will start giving his opportunities to other payers who are more hungrier.

Will his opportunities start fading to other players next week or next year if he doesn't start producing? Hard to say. I wouldnt just brush off the speeding ticket. Ever been arrested? I don't know Olave the person at all. Is being cuffed and arrested a non issue for him mentally? Who knows. Something definitely seems off, but hard to say what that is. Is it him? Is it Carr? Is it simply the Olave and Carr combo together? He keeps getting heavy targets. Saints are tied for 1st in division so it's not like they giving up on season. Hard to know if this is a buy low or sell high guy for me.

This guy is killing me. Keep starting him over J Green or J Reynolds and it feels like the definition of insanity. I need him to be a WR3 and he’s the 3rd or 4th receiving option on his own team.

I need him to be a WR3 and he’s the 3rd or 4th receiving option on his own team.

Nine targets ain't bad. He had fifteen targets against the Jaguars last Thursday. A quick Google search finds that he is the most targeted Saints player this year.

I'd say it goes Olave, Kamara, Thomas, and Shaheed, in that order.

Feels like the old Diontae Johnson problem. All the targets in the world but not much to show for it.

Not when they gotta have it doesn’t it. He’s strictly a green zone producer. 8 RZ targets 0 TDs.

Zero 20 points games.

The fantasy football schedule is pretty consistent.
  • Tuesday - WW & Adjustments
  • Wednesday through Saturday are Analysis & (importantly ) Rising Expectations
  • Sunday - the duality of Jubilation & Despair
  • Monday is for overreacting
Don’t mess with the schedule, Rock. Overreactions don’t mix well with logic. Let the tea kettle vent.

Saints targets since Alvin Kamara returned in Week 4:
  1. Chris Olave (44)
    Kamara (44)
  2. Michael Thomas (35)
  3. Rashid Shaheed (24)
Receiving yards:
  1. Shaheed (327)
  2. Thomas (273)
  3. Kamara (228)
  4. Olave (215)

It is kind of comical that Carr seems to be more accurate on long passes when Shaheed is the target. Hits him right in stride

That 58 yard TD to Shaheed was a thing of beauty

For now, the offensive line pass-protection issues have been largely worked out. This has made a huge difference in Carr's results.

Good analogy, similar frustration, just got rid of Diontae in dynasty but thankfully I now have Olave to carry the torch!

There isn’t an issue with him as much as has been led to believe. Carr seems to be more of the issue. Carr doesn’t seem to be on the same paige with both Thomas and Olave. Shaheed looks to be the only one in sync with Carr at the moment, and he seems to be getting limited opportunities.

Good thing is that it's an issue until it isn't. One big week is all it takes. Some may think that big week won't happen I tend to believe it will. Im just hoping he gets in a wr2 groove come week 11 to finish out.

The problem for some Olave managers now is that this big week might come with him on their bench.

Yep. I get it and I also realize all leagues have different starting requirements. Having said that, hard to put a guy who is 7th in the league in targets on the bench.

I agree especially mid season with byes and injuries but his starting % has to be slowly dropping.

It wasn’t pretty, easy TD with nobody around that just bounces off his face

Yikes

I for one can’t refuse to sit him at this point. I was thinking an it when I first read a few weeks ago about his body language. Then I started paying more attention when I read a beat writers article refuting the claims he was not giving much effort. As a Saints fan, I’ve tried to give Carr the benefit of the doubt, but he seems to be the major issue.

No one. He’s stayed in my lineup. I guess you misread what I said. I have him in all 3 of my redraft leagues, but I am a Saints fan. As long as the targets are there, I don’t think I can sit him as they are all ppr.

Don't think that's a misread ... "can't refuse to sit him" would mean you've accepted that you need to sit him.

My bad and I agree with your response. Unless it's like an 8 man league it just seems like everyone is either gonna be happy or go down with the ship. Ha ha
