WR Martavis Bryant, WAS (4 Viewers)

Leveon Bell was suspended for multiple infractions, do you pass on him?
Last year I did a startup and many teams passed on Bell he slipped to pick 16 where I moved up from 18 to get him and when I drafted Bell I had multiple owners tell me what a fool I was and how they wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot poll and how I wasted my pick.

I took M-Bryant in both my startups last year around the 10th round.  Hopefully he stays clean but that was worth the risk I thought last year.

Thanks. That cleared that up.  Are there dinosaurs that aren't prehistoric?  Do they score touchdowns at an accelerated rate also?

.
Non-prehistoric dinosaurs are called "birds."

Some of them (Falcons, older Cardinals) do in fact score TDs at accelerated rates.  Others (Eagles, Ravens) are below average TD scorers, though.

It would appear that the predictive utility of being a modern dinosaur is somewhat limited.

Where does he stand in your WR Rankings for 2017?

From what I hear he put on muscle and stayed in VERY good shape during the suspension.

With him in the league's discipline program he is such a risky proposition.  If he was not one infraction away from being permanently disbarred I would gladly trade 1.01 for him if I was not planning on taking Corey Davis.  With his baggage I would maybe trade 1.07 or higher to get him.   I think those who have him and held him all along aren't going to trade him for a rookie pick this year unless they're given a top three pick. The issue is the person with the top three pick isn't going to trade for him because of the risk of him screwing up and being out of the league. So I think a lot of people aren't really going to want to mess around with Bryant if they don't already have him.

Not to dump cold water on the love fest in here,  but let's take inventory.

First,  the good

26 years old

Outstanding size/speed

Plays with hall of fame quarterback

Now the less good

1314 career receiving yards

Career high 765 receiving yards in 2015

4 career 100 yard games

Won't be the team's number one receiver as long as AB is playing

AB probably has more good years left than Roethlisberger, who has started talking openly about retirement

Roethlisberger has missed 6 of his last 32 games with 3 different injuries

Opportunities may be limited as the offense runs through bell, and also just drafted a top receiver, and seems to like Eli in the slot

Knucklehead tweet about juju replacing Sammie Coates suggests he's probably not making best friends with everyone

Suspended 18 and injured 1 out of the Steelers last 32 games

Colbert "Martavis (Bryant) was a great asset to us when he was available"

Has only been conditionally reinstated

One more infraction could put him out of the league

The track records for guys with similar suspension histories is absolutely horrible

I agree with the people saying he's a high upside, swing for the fences player.  But it's not just the suspensions.  He might play and still not be a fantasy starter.  He might never get suspended again his whole career, but only play with Roethlisberger for one or two of them and end up being one of the big 3 receivers for a mediocre qb. I get that he's big and fast, but Antonio is fast and good and juju is big and strong and bell is a huge part of the offense too. So while I definitely see the upside, there are a lot of bullets to dodge for him too reach his upside.

There's indeed a lot of risk with Bryant, but if (big if) he stays clean this year and produces he's got a big opportunity to get out of Brown's shadow next year as an UFA. I'm sure dynasty owners are taking that into account.

you guys lovefesting him are nuts.

has not been re-instated. Need to  jump through hoops and hes a knucklehead.

Name one drug related season long suspension guy that has even come back and done anything? Josh Gordon? Blackmon? Hardy....Aldon Smith?

IF I got offered a #1 for him I would take it in a new York second.....you guys still holding Josh Gordon?

Um, yes, he has.

Nope, his contract tolled.  He'll be completing year 3 of his contract this year, year 4 next year, and PIT still has the FT after that.  They may not use it, heck he may not make it that long, but he's got at least until 2019 and perhaps 2020 until he's free.

That's great but reminds me of David Boston when he got jacked, went to Miami and promptly caught a total of 4 passes.

I don't think that happens here but being in great shape is just the start.
Lol at the trainer timing he 40 with his iPhone. I'm sure that's exact to the millisecond.  Besides, I already know Martavis is an athletic freak, I'd rather see a video of him doing community service and talking about how he's matured.

I agree but that clip was a shorter clip from a 5 minute video where he talks a little about maturing and changing his lifestyle. I did giggle at the 40 though.

The 40 was the only good part. Seemed like an awfully contrived "look how cool I am" video. Glad he is motivated. I wish he would just eff up so I can feel better about drafting Juju. Just joking. I hope MT does great.

We never actually saw the timer running could have been preset to look like it was timed. A common trick with magicians, don't look where they tell you too just do the opposite.

Nothing earth-shattering, but news.  Pretty bullish on MB this year, and Big Ben as well.  MB is such a huge upgrade over Coates and Wheaton - should make a big impact on that offense.

ESPN Steelers reporter Jeremy Fowler projects Martavis Bryant as a starter.

Fowler notes the Steelers are not going to hand Bryant the job after he was suspended all of 2016, but there is "no denying he belongs in the starting lineup" if he proves trustworthy. Bryant will have to hold off second-round rookie JuJu Smith-Schuster and Sammie Coates for the job, but he is clearly the most talented of the three.

Bryant might be more talented than juju but I don't think we can say it's clear just yet.

Martavis Bryant says he added 10 pounds of muscle during his suspension.
Bryant said he last played at 215 pounds, but he is up to 225 now. May is the time of year for weight updates, but this one carries more...weight...because it shows Bryant was working diligently while he was away from the team. As well as the added mass, Bryant said the suspension and birth of his son have helped make him a different person, and he has "put the right people" around himself to succeed.

I timed him at 4.46 on my iPhone stopwatch.
Oddly, the first time I did on my iPhone, I got exactly 4.46.  Then I decided to be more conscious to stop it as soon as he reached the 40 yard line and got 4.33, 4.36, and 4.32.  In any case, he is fast.

yeah, he's definitely fast.  Just shows how inaccurate hand times are and why combine times are much better than pro day ones.
