WR Triplets (DAL/PIT/TB + CIN/JAX/MIA (1 Viewer)

There are six teams which have three wide receivers amongst the top 60 WRs being drafted. Three of these teams saw all 3 WRs in the top 50 last season:

Dallas - WR22, WR35, WR48

Pittsburgh - WR20, WR24, WR33

Tampa Bay - WR15, WR16, WR23

This is on a PPG basis, full PPR, min 8 GP. DAL and PIT is had only 1 missed game between their 6 receivers; thus they played 48 & 47 G while the TB group played a total of 36 G. Switching to total points for the season:

Dallas - WR15, WR24, WR38

Pittsburgh - WR16, WR19, WR22

Tampa Bay - WR11, WR31, WR65*

*AB was rostered for the 2nd half, 8 GP.

These three Triplets are coveted bc they are expected to be high scoring, effective passing attacks. Well, the first two anyway. The Steelers May run the ball considerably more this year, and no one is certain how much is left in Big Ben’s arm.

The other three are grouped together mostly bc we are not really sure how things will play out. All three have young QBs (1 rookie & 2 second year players.) All 3 have at least one new WR: the first two WRs drafted (Waddle & Chase), and the veteran Marvin Jones Jr signing as a FA.

The dilemma of these six receiving groups is one of the most interesting discussions of this preseason.  There doesn’t seem to be any consensus on how this will shake out.

RECENT HISTORY (courtesy of Fantasy Footballers podcast) 2018-2020, there were 14 times a trio of WRs went in the same draft with ADPs inside the top 60. Sometimes it’s bc it is a good offense, and sometimes it’s bc of ambiguous situations.

2018 - 4 teams drafted in the top 60, none had three WRs in the Top 50. Only one had 2 WRs in the Top 36.

2019 - 6 teams drafted in the top 60, none had three WRs in the Top 50. Only one had 2 WRs in the Top 36.

2020 - 4 teams drafted in the top 60, only one (PIT) had three WRs in the Top 50. Two (DAL & PIT had 2 WRs in the Top 36, with the Steelers trio all finishing Top 24. (TB did not have 3 drafted in the top 60 as AB only played half a year.)

2021 - I have no clue, what does The Shark Pool think?

In my book TB's trio could really be ripe to exceed expectations.  Brady never totally got comfortable with that offense until late in the season. With the chip on his shoulder he seems to be carrying-and trying to rub it in New England's and BB's face-we could see some numbers similar to Peyton Manning in his record breaking 2nd year in Denver.  I think TB12 is the type of personality to use those things and the chance at a Super Bowl repeat as added motivation and his pass catchers' production will reflect that.

His numbers last year:  4603 yds 40Tds

With full off season of familiarity in Arians' system I'm buying  into the Tampa receivers.

Current ADP

  • JAX Chark 82/WR34  Shenault 96/WR40  Jones Jr 120/WR48
  • MIA Fuller 98/WR41  Waddle 106/WR43  Parker 134/WR54
  • PIT Johnson 54/WR22  Claypool 67/WR26  JJSS 68/WR27

Top 50 chances hinge greatly on Burrows' knee comfort.  Not looking totally comfortable according to early camp reports, but improving.  Definitely doable if he tosses 40+ targets like last year.

DAL Lamb 33/WR11  Cooper 40/WR15  Gallup 107/WR44
Of course.....if Dak's shoulder is ok. Can't deny how awesome he looked pre-injury last year.

JAX Chark 82/WR34  Shenault 96/WR40  Jones Jr 120/WR48
IMHO, the easiest one to say 'no way' to.  Chark's hand injury, plus Etienne role.  And as awesome as he's projected to be Lawrence is a rookie.

MIA Fuller 98/WR41  Waddle 106/WR43  Parker 134/WR54
I'm all over the place on this one.  But I'd lean toward no.  Fuller is still very injured.  I also don't expect their passing attack to be that prolific.  I'll defer to more knowledgeable Dolphins fans on this one

PIT Johnson 54/WR22  Claypool 67/WR26  JJSS 68/WR27
I believe Ben's high flying passing days are over.  The OL issues and a seeming re-dedication to the old school Steelers rushing attack has pretty much been the preseason theme here.

My opinion on Tampa Bay and Brady are already posted up thread.

Gallup at WR44 cracks me up. I know he's not sexy, but he's a talented WR in his own right. Criminally underrated, IMHO he finishes somewhere in the 25-36 range, and that's with Cooper/Lamb both finishing inside the Top 24, all other things being equal.

Dak tossed for 450 yards in 3 consecutive games before breaking his ankle.

Not sure what the question is.
LOL. thought the same myself.

of all the teams mentioned, Dallas has the best shot at three 1000 yard WRs. Pitt WRs? nah.

"The dilemma of these six receiving groups is one of the most interesting discussions of this preseason.  There doesn’t seem to be any consensus on how this will shake out" .

yeah.no. Dallas has the best chance a three 1k receivers. Pitt? lol. can anyone in that town actually catch the ball on a regular basis??

For A. Brown the be effective, one of the others needs to get injured. As much as I like Brown, he's injury-dependent. he's not going to sniff the field for more than 45-50 catches, not with Gio in town.

95 first downs in that stretch.

_______________

TB receivers over the last 7 weeks (all 3 played every game)

  • Evans 18.41 PPG (WR7)
  • Godwin 17.00 (WR13)
  • Brown 15.86 (WR16)
target distribution was 57-49-56 over that stretch (Weeks 10-17, bye WK 13)

The potential Gio imitation of James White could well knock AB out of the top 50, for sure.
