was this wrong to bring this up? serious 12 team money league

Hey guys,

Don't want to be a jerk here. But these two trades as logged on our site are passed the trade deadline. Our Rules: "The blind bidding pick-up deadline is the trade deadline in week six after which no more trades will be allowed". The blind bidding deadline in week 6, this week, is 9pm (or actually one second before 9pm) central time Friday October 15. Maybe there is evidence of these trades in emails or something. Maybe it took time to get them recorded to the site. Not saying anything was improper here, but just to keep everybody honest let's see the proof. Not that either of these trades are probably going to make much difference, and again not trying to be a jerk here but rules are rules and this looks beyond the trade deadline as recorded on the site. How about some clarification Mr Commishioner.

In a "serious 12 team money league"? No--not wrong; rules is rules.

I don't think it's at all wrong to bring it up or ask for clarification. In a serious money league I would do the same. The actual trades may have been completed before the deadline and not entered into the website until later, but that is on the commissioner to make sure everyone is aware that there were no rules broken. A simple post to alleviate any concerns would settle the matter. Obviously a member of the league has some concerns. He wasn't accusatory, just noting a discrepancy in what the rules state versus what is recorded on the website and asking for proof, or clarification, that no rules were bent/broken in the processing of said transactions. The commissioner should verify such. If the rules were in fact broken, then the trades need to be reversed immediately and apologies offered.

funny the commish responds that the trades were made on time and he did not save the emails so we'll just have to take his word for it that the trades were on time

Even if he doesnt have copies the senders should. sounds like bs to me. Also I know it is a rule and all but week 6 for a trade deadline? Might as well make it a no trade league. Also no waiver wire from here forward is an even worse rule.

One thing always seems to be true.. When you begin something with "don't want to be a jerk here".. you probably are a jerk. The author of this really comes across as rude to me... A simple "Hey guys, I thought the trade deadline was 9:00 PM. What's up?" would have been sufficient.Week 6... the trades are finalized an hour or so after the deadline. Might be different if we were talking about a real lapse in time but I wouldn't make a issue out of it. Not a big leap of faith to assume the trades were in progress or at least awaiting commish approval. I could be in the same situation next year. I let it ride and establish the precedent that the "deadline" has some give.

Really? So your deadline isn't really a deadline......just some arbitrary point in time that holds no real bearing. Once folks know the line is bendable, they will bend that line. Why have an exact deadline of a specific date and time if you aren't going to enforce it? I prefer a commissioner that sticks to the rules. As Glumpy stated, "Rules is rules."To comment on the OP's last post about his commish not having any email record of the transactions: Any commissioner worth is salt would keep records for just this type of scenario. I know I do. I've probably got 5 years worth of saved emails from the league I run - yeah, I know, I should just delete the majority of them, but I haven't yet

Deadline is the deadline. Unless they can prove they did whatever was necessary to complete the trade before the deadline (however your league does it, email the commish, text him, etc), the trade shouldn't have gone forward.

In our main money league we usually schedule the deadline for a Monday night game so many of the guys can get together and technically the deadline is midnight but it is rather common that some trades are not entered until the next morning. As the commish I expect to have some form of communication by the morning of a trade or else it's not going through.

Even in the NFL it is possible for a trade to actually be announced after the deadline and deals are often finalized and communicated to the league after the official time has passed.

Agreed. No excuse for a commish to NOT save emails and follow the rules on stuff like this if you handle trades via email. I just looked and I have a folder dated back to 2004. I'm not sure even tax records need to be kept that long. :excited:

Yes, really... these trades went through a whole hour or so after their deadline. And as I said, maybe they simply needed the commish's approval. And maybe the guy complaining will find himself in the same situation in the future. If someone in my league sent me a email worded that way I'd tell him to go pound himself. Some of you guys worry way too much about nothing.ETA: Check out the parameters on the MLB deadline; Even that allows some extra time to get things finalized.
