Baloney Sandwich

Footballguy
I'm down in Alpharetta for work and walked into a steakhouse last night to grab some dinner, figured I would sit at the bar and have a glass of wine and ribeye. Place was called Cabernet or something, supposedly the best in town. I walk into the bar area and felt like I was in San Francisco on a foggy morning. People were smoking like it was their job.

I can't remember the last time you could smoke inside in the Northeast. Get it together you ####### hayseeds.

Was in Augusta last week, was kinda shocked by it too but as a former smoker, embraced the 2nd hand bliss it provided.

Who the hell smokes anymore?

You haven't lived until you've had a cigarette with your morning breakfast sandwich while sitting in a booth at a Georgia McDonalds. That's the high life right there.

If you're still in town go to Ray's Killer Creek next time.

I've heard smoking is still allowed in restaurants but haven't witnessed it in at least 10 years. And we eat out all the time.

Ray's is pretty good - Stoney River isn't horrible either if you are wanting a steak.

There's so few places that allow it even when they are allowed to by not allowing anyone under 21 to enter that I had forgotten.  I don't mean to denigrate anyone that smokes but you not only limit your clientele enormously but you usually attract a different kind of group - maybe that's what this place is going for - maybe it's a high-end cigar bar/steak house??

Yeah, there was a sports bar down the street that allowed it, but they closed recently. From what I understand, they had fights in there all the time, and the one time I walked in there it reeked of smoke. The funny thing was that when the Pokemon Go thing was so popular, this place was a refill stop, or whatever they called them.

You know you didn't have to stay, right?

If you could be drinking Miller High Life it would be, indeed

People who would eat in a restaurant that still allows smoking are much worse degenerates than people who merely smoke and have the decency to take it outside.

There are bars around here (VA) that you can still smoke in. I'd forgotten how awful it is. It really sucks because one is really the only legitimate, locally owned sports bar in the whole damn city.

Really? I thought VA banned it statewide. I live about 5 counties north of you in a rural area of VIrginia, and all of the bars/restaurants are non-smoking - even the local Moose Lodge recently got rid of the ashtrays, and I thought they were the last bastion.

I smoke, but I never liked smoking where I ate. Bars were different, probably because I was drunk and didn't give a damn. In any case, I've gotten used to not smoking indoors anywhere - the house I'm in now and have had for almost 7 years hasn't had one cigarette smoked in it since I bought it.

I really miss that smell on my clothes after coming inside from a smoke break. Especially when it was drizzling out. I wish they made a cologne to duplicate that smell.

Around here, it appears you can have a bar that allows smoking as long as they meet certain requirements for separate ventilation from the non-smoking section. The sports bar I like basically cuts the restaurant in half.

There is one place little redneck dive bar that has a "non-smoking section" that is literally the size of a phone booth. When whatever the new regulations are came out several years back, they cut a hole in the wall, spent about $40 in lumber and put in a little window unit AC unit in it and called it a day.

I'm not sure how much the regulations vary from county to county, but 5 counties south of you I'm sure would see a lot of variation. It's pretty red in these parts. And from the perspective here, anything Charlottesville or above is a bunch of pinko hippy liberals.

I live in alpharetta.  The only places I know like this around here are bars.  You are out in the burbs buddy its all families and non smoking restaurants. Nice job generalizing the entire state from visiting one restaurant.

Its funny I am so rarely around smoke I am shocked when I drive down to florida and see everyone smoking.  The 2 places I see lots of smokers are in town (concerts/bars) and anywhere in flordia.
