WTF is up with Fantasy Football in 2007? (1 Viewer)

I can't quite put my finger on it now. I have been in FF for a relatively short time now (5 years), but this season just seems like its out of the norm.

For one, it seems like there have been more injuries than normal, especially with the RB's. And to begin with, there were so many RBBC's that a solid back seemed hard to come by before this year's draft, and now a solid back seems even more scarce with the seemingly increase in the RB injuries.

Speaking of the RB's, how many of the consensus top 15 backs have not performed to expectations? Taking the injuries into consideration, you have to mention S-Jax, Alexander, Gore, Benson, R. Brown, LJ, Rudi, and Maroney for not performing well. I'm sure there are some more players that you guys can add in who you are disappointed with.

Meanwhile, it seems like the WR's this year are right up there in the top 25 of RB/WR/TE rankings. Off the top of my head, I'd say that Moss, Edwards, Houshmanzadeh, and Burress are in the top 10 of RB/WR/TE, which seems like alot.

I don't know. I guess my point is that RB's seem to be on the decline now, for one reason or another. Any thoughts?

That is what makes the hobby so much fun. The inconsistancies and that it will never be an exact science.

This year has been the most fun I can remember because nine weeks in and the 10th place team still has just as much chance to win as the guy who is currently in first. The scores have been pretty close.

This year is like a transition period for all positions... many older RBs and WRs are beginning to under-perform and breakdown; mean while a lot of the younger talent are beginning to shine.

I expect this too happen for the next couple of years as the cream rises and settle into their roles.

Put it this way, my RB2 & RB3 is Gore & Lewis and I dont want to disrupt the rest of my team to get a better RB cuz Im in a better situation then a lot of other teams.

I just lost LJ, really hurting my chances. I had already lost Steve Smith due to the loss of Delhomme. You have to have depth, but it is less fun to follow all backups - the stars of the game really do make it.

I really felt sick to my stomach when guys like Caddy and Ronnie Brown went down, even though I don't have them.

There's nothing worse in FF than the injuries. They're a part of the game, but in a year with so many injuries, I'm having much less fun than normal. There's nothing you can do, other than hoping for less injuries in the future...

Its for this reason (amongst others) that I've fallen in love with salary cap football this year. Every week you draft a new team with the only restriction being that you must come in under the salary cap. This eliminates the "my season is over now because I lost _______ this week." Additionally, its much more involving since you have to redraft every week. You're constantly looking for the best for that particular week. Its great fun.

What's even crazier is that none of these top 4 WR's were in most pre-season top 10 rankings. They were generally considered top tier WR2's, IIRC.

It doesn't help that 3 of the top offenses, the Patriots, Cowboys, and Browns, either use RBBC or just have an ineffective running game.

 I may be having more fun this year because I am in first with a 2 game lead, but you never know. For instance, going into the draft with all my keepers I knew I had to take my second QB in round 3 (had Brady kept for a 4th  ) and my pick depended on someone else's keepers. Well, he kept Kitna and Leinart instead of Kitna and Romo and voila, Romo is my 2nd QB who I start as my Flex position. If that owner keeps Romo, I might take Leinart and my team is not as good. I also got lucky that Bush, knock on wood, is one of the few 1st round PPR RBs that has been decent. If I pick one pick later, I might have Chad Johnson and Benson instead of Bush/Roy Williams (who has sucked lately).Going into the season, there were 2 teams who kept a lot of players and after the draft we were probably 2 of the favorites. Well, I am 1st in points and he is last in points in a 10 team league. He is also the guy who didn't keep Romo. :)

In an RTS$$ league I drafted

Larry Johnson, Andre Johnson, Ronnie Brown, Caddilac, Branch, Heap, Schaub. I drafted all of those guys.

Somehow I only have one loss. If LJ is out for the year my smoke and mirrors gig is up.

I don't recall a year like this for injuries. It has been a crazy year. I don't think I have ever used the WW as much as I have this year and the season isn't even done yet.

 Thats cuz we're halfway through the season. The stats for the other years are for the full year.

I totally agree. The same thing is happening in my league right now as well. There are 10 teams still legitimately in it.

I think that the NFL's rules changes and enforcement are having an effect. The NFL has been enforcing the illegal contact after 5 yard penalties. They also changed the rules allowing QB's to throw the ball away and making it very difficult for defenses to harrass QB's without roughing the passer calls. These rules changes have allowed offenses to throw downfield more.

The top teams in the NFL used to be the best defense and rushing teams. Now the best teams are the best passing teams. Period. The best 8 teams in the league right now IND, NE, GB, DAL, NYG, DET, PIT and TEN all are great passing teams (except for TEN obviously). Even CLE is 5-3 with no defense and almost no running game.

In my league there have been more ww pick-ups this year than ever before. In the past, teams could capture our 14 team championship with 1 good/great ww addition. Now, there is definite need to trade or scour the ww because of injuries to key players and complete lack of production from projected top performers.

This season is fugazi.

All 3 of my keepers were lost to injury. All 3 of my drafted QBs, gone. Also lost 2 waiver wire QBs. All 4 drafted RBs gone to injury. Made a great value pick with the Chicago D still available late, and then they all got hurt. Worst part was I was still .500 through week 6, so I had terrible waiver wire position. Even now there's one owner with a worse record who just snagged my pickup this week.

Blind bidding WW is the way to go. We switched last year. Way better then worst to first WW priority.

Or like my league where WW rotates, i.e. as soon as you make a waiver wire pickup, you move to the end of the list. I am in first and I have the top WW spot now because I knew there were going to be a bunch of pickups with byes/injuries this weekend. I didn't need Holmes or anyone else so I just waited until after the waiver wire was done to switch kickers, who no one grabbed. Now I am going to basically sit tight to stay at the top in just in case mode.
