WW Defenses for Week 5 (1 Viewer)

Not seeing one that stands out right now, some options are:

MIN vs TEN

ATL @ WAS

CIN vs MIA

Who do you like?

I like Arizona against STL.

Just kidding. I normally go with the home team and Washington isn't that great of a matchup, so throw out Atlanta. I'd probably roll with Minnesota. They're the 4th highest scoring defense in Yahoo Standard leagues at home with a decent matchup.

I like both Minn and CIN. Minn has enough of a pass rush to get after QB and he did throw 2 pick 6s last week I read. Plus Minn had I think 2 ST TDs. Cinn, since Dunlap is back, has been racking up sacks. I know ATL D has been good, but they're going against RGIII. Wouldn't want to take a chance since he seems to be doing pretty well.

Minnesota at home vs Tennessee looks like the play to me this week. I'm still not a Chris Johnson believer, that O-Line is underwhelming, a 37 year old QB and their best WR is banged up with home field advantage.

Lot of people calling it already. Minnesota looks like a good play. Fast DEs, active secondary against a weakened Tennessee offense at home in the Dome looks like a recipe for a big day. Tenn is currently 3rd worst in fantasy for opposing team defenses and the Vikings are currently owned in about 17% of leagues on Yahoo and 46% and rising in CBS.

Probably ill advised, but I went with the Carolina Panthers this week.

- Playing at home helps.

- Facing a struggling rookie QB.

- Seattle is great running the ball, but dead last in passing. Bottom 4 in total yards.

- All of Wilson's turnovers have been on the road.

- Panthers have faced Brees, Eli, and Ryan the last 3 weeks - rough trio that will make any defense look bad stats-wise.

- Sacked Ryan 7 times last week.

Not expecting much, but hoping for the best.

Was thinking along the same lines ... will we actually get a Flynn sighting if this gets ugly?Few points to consider here .... if your league is tilted heavily to points allowed, this could be a great option; though the Seattle D forcing Cam into a couple turnovers and giving the 'Hawks a short field is a concern. But still don't see any way "Air Russel" can hang any more than 17 points up here ...Unless ... Lynch runs wild against a very suspect Panthers' run defense (Andre Brown, anyone? Michael "slow burner" Turner housing it from 60 on a screen?) Even so, long ball control drives eat the clock, and move the clock along. Has all the makings of a 21-17 type game. Hoping Cam did turn a corner last week, can keep up the more explosive play; forcing Wilson to win this one on the road. Very likely scenario which could yield a bounty of scoring for Panthers D.I like the Panthers here as a solid "sleeper" ... worth the one week gamble if you are bereft of other options.

Thinking of grabbing the Panthers to start over the Bills vs. SF (MIN, STL, etc all owned). Slim pickings.

Last night, I noticed a run on the Miami defense. All leagues picked them up. Must be looking ahead to week 6 against St Louis? And I thought picking up Minnesota was hardcore.

I wanted Minny. I think that is the pick this week. Had to settle on STL. CAR was my next choice.

For those in deep leagues with thin WW DSTs available.... Carolina facing Seattle hitting the road could be promising. The defense has been poor in Charlotte but if I recall correctly Seattle used to have a bad time traveling to the opposite coast, not sure if that's still the case though.

I went Miami bc they have a great schedule rest of year. Their SOS according to fbg isn't in the green but probably only bc of two pats games. But I thought they looked good last two weeks.

According to NFL.com:

The New York Giants are the most banged-up team in the NFL: Seven players are out or doubtful against the Cleveland Browns : wide receivers Hakeem Nicks (foot/knee) and Ramses Barden (concussion), defensive tackle Rocky Bernard (quadricep), cornerback Jayron Hosley (hamstring), safety Kenny Phillips (knee), offensive tackle David Diehl (knee), and linebacker Keith Rivers (hamstring). Those are all starters or key reserves. Four more starters are questionable. Maybe Sessler wasn't so crazy to pick the Browns .

Maybe this could elevate one of the waiver wire defenses a little bit; MINN is looking to be the best looking of the group to me now.

I was going to roll with CAR but Gamble and Beason are looking doubtful.

I may end up rolling with SEA, idk, it's really scarce for me right now.

Not sure how anyone can trust Carolina. That defense has been so bad. They can't tackle and their defensive backs struggle to make plays on any long pass. Thinking of rolling with Cincy over Seattle but they are tough to trust

Agreed. Carolina made Andre Brown look like a probowler in spot duty, and the next week made Michael Turner look like "Turner the Burner" after he looked all but done in the first 3 games. Just cross Carolina off any defensive flier lists.

Oooffahhh. From "sleeper" to "sleeps with the fishes" .. :X
Yeah, to be honest though, neither CAR or SEA give up many points to opposing DEFs. It's very possible neither would have been good play. The game may stay on the ground the whole time limiting potential sacks and INTs. At least I played STL in half of my leagues and got MIN rollin in the other one. :IBTL:

we have to carry 2 defenses and I was fortunate to pick up both CIN and MIN this week. Now just have to stress about which to start. Leaning CIN. Despite nice performance last week, Tannehill is still a rookie on the road. I really think either CIN or MIN are good options though if still avail for anyone to grab.

Inclement weather out there. Any place this might present an opportunity?
looks like redskins and giants games could be effected. more wind in ny though. the ne/den game could be hit with some rain and wind too. these games may not be the high scoring games some think

I grabbed CIN D, just noticed guy I'm playing has AJ Green and BJGE starting. Do you guys ever avoid that due to any correlation that if your D does good their starters are getting a ton of opportunities?

I think ATL D is the only other option.

I'm still rolling with nyg vs CLE at home despite injuries. Weeden not a very mobile qb. If their front 4 can get pressure there will be turnovers.

I'm going with Miami today...and for the next month. This is a decent D that should be out there on most WWs. They lead the league in rush D at 57 yards a game. Yeah, two of those games were against the Jets and the Cards but they did (vs HOU and OAK) hold Foster to 79 yards (26 carries) and McFadden to 22 yards (on 11 carries). BenJarvis isn't going anywhere. And the Dolphins DC, Coyle, just came over from Cinci so he knows everything about them...that can't hurt.

Looking forward, the fish also have STL on deck, at home. (BYE W7) Followed by the Jets, which will be Tebow time by then. After that, the Colts and the Titans. And Buffalo and Seattle.

Anyway, not a bad stretch for a team that forces you to pass. Pick 6 anybody?

Chilly rain just started falling 'round the Meadowlands .... those debating defenses based on weather take note ... wind is slight (maybe 10 mph tops).

Carolina scored for my league: 16 points

•2.00 pts for 1 Fumble Recoveries (from Opponent)

•6.00 pts for 1 Interception Return TDs

•4.00 pts for 2 Interceptions

•2.00 pts for 2 Sacked a QB

•2.00 pts for 1 Safeties

I'll take that for a 1 week D.
