Duck Tape - WW2 Secret Weapon

(video - also gives a thumbnail history of Spam meat product)

It was originally called Duck tape bc it was made from cotton duck cloth. When Johnson & Johnson began mass producing it to seal cartridge ammunition boxes, they called it Duck tape bc it was waterproof.

The army referred to it as Department of Utility’s Cloth Tape (DUCT.)

Apparently it’s National Woman’s History Month

Meet Vesta Stoudt - the woman who gave us duct taoe

interesting kinda.

I always thought it was "duct" tape, because it was used to wrap ducts.
Well thats actually when the "name change" happened. I company bought the og - modified it and used it mainly for construction and thats when the name duct tape became used

yup

Because it was developed for the military, the tape was initially army green before it became available in the metallic silver that's common today. Later, it began being used to seal ducts, which is how it became known as "duct" tape. The color was changed to silver to match the ducts.

Flex seal is the new duct tape

ETA:  more accurately Flex tape is the new duct tape
