Wynn Returns To Practice Thursday (1 Viewer)

Running back DeShawn Wynn participated in today's practice, while receiver Ruvell Martin did not.

Wynn, the Packers' leading rusher, showed no signs of the neck spasms that kept him out of Tuesday's practice during the portion of today's workout that was open to the media. It remains unclear whether Wynn or Ryan Grant will get the start Monday night at Denver, but if Wynn is healthy, it's almost certain rookie second-round draft pick Brandon Jackson will be inactive for the fourth consecutive game.

not trying to hijack, but assuming you are a pack homer, do you think that Brandon Jackson is a complete bust? why hasn't he gotten any real PT this season? even with Wynn hurt?

He stinks. It's that simple. It was a highly questionable draft pick by Ted Thompson and the guy has been a flat-out bust since the start of camp.

I am thinking they are not happy with Wynn even when he is healthy and would like an excuse to give Grant the start... Nothing but a hunch and a personal opinion there, and I am not even a big Packers fan.

It just kind of makes sense that they might like to see Grant in a full time role?

If they wanted Grant to get starts, he would have been getting them. They traded a higher draft pick away to get Grant than they used on Wynn.Grant was only getting the reps because Wynn got dinged up.Seems they are ok with Wynn since he keeps getting the carries (especially the goalline work).

Broncos week: Thursday practice report

By Greg A. Bedard

Green Bay - Here's what went on during a spirited Thursday practice:

RB DeShawn Wynn (neck) was back and looked fine. He immediately resumed the first-team duties with Ryan Grant and Vernand Morency splitting carries behind Wynn. Morency seemed to get more than his normal number of reps. Brandon Jackson practiced but got some scout team work in. He'll likely be inactive again on Monday night;

:goodposting: As some people here were saying he would be before the season even started...

Yup. I didn't like the pick at all and haven't been the least bit surprised what I've seen from him so far. He's come as advertised.Unfortunately.

IMO Grant would get the shot behind Wynn, if Wynn went down, only because of Morency's durability concerns. But I don't see any reason to believe the Packers aren't happy with Wynn, or like Grant better. Nothing said, nothing game-wise would indicate that at all.

Not really. They drafted Wynn. They traded a pick for Grant. Both guys are like by the staff. But it's pretty obvious by words and actions that they feel Wynn is the better starter.

Well if you're a big Chester Taylor fan maybe we can have revisit those fun-filled Minnesota RB debates from the past. I'll go with All Day.

Nah, we agree there too - though I doubt anyone in their right mind would think Taylor was better than ADP.Unfortunately for me, I couldn't control Smith's headcase issues. What a waste of talent.

I'd like to give him another year before calling him a bust. But that's just me.

Smith was better than Bennett, that's for sure.

Yup. I always liked his talent. He just didn't have the right stuff above the shoulders.

Is Morency really still banged up? I have to think he is the most talented guy in the mix here no?

:thumbdown:Sweet backpedal.
Hardly. Given how I drafted Smith several years in a row it was pretty obvious I liked the guy's talent.

You seem to amuse yourself. I haven't told a single lie. I did like Smith's talent and I did draft him several years in a row because of it. That is the truth. Like I said, the facts continue to elude you.In any event, enough of the hijack. Wynn back at practice today.

How on earth did this become a pissing contest... please SLBHD, let it rest. Everyone in here was cool until you popped in, and regardless of whether anyone thinks there's some revisionist history going on or not, the bottom line is it's history. So let's let bygones be bygones, and focus on the real issues here....... how right I was about Brandon Jackson sucking  :P

Do you still have that Michael Bennett jersey, packersfan? The one you got when you thought he was going to be better than Ahman Green.
Never had one and never said he was better than Ahman Green. Both figments of your rather bizarre imagination. And yea you're most definitely done. :unsure:If you weren't so busy trying to be clever perhaps you'd realize there was no backpedal involved. The debate switz and I had about Smith never revolved around his talent. I always agreed with him that Smith was talented. The debate centered on other issues and how those issues impacted who was going to get the carries in the Minnesota backfield.Yes I know, damn those pesky facts always getting in the way of you trying to be so clever.

I agree that he appears the most talented, but other will disagree. That's fine. I tend to think he offer the most explosion of the bunch. Wynn is kind of a plodder, in my opnion. However, it sure looks like Morency's knee will be an issue all year. So, I don't see him being healthy enough to ever really get a shot as the full time ball carrier.

Hey Switz, who is that in your avatar? I only ask because every time I flip through threads and see a debate going on, I can't help but side with whomever it is you're debating with because that guy in the avatar looks like the biggest scumbag on earth, and I want to smack him in the mouth.

Honest question.

That's REALLY REALLY funny. I'd think Kid Rock looks like the biggest scumbag on earth, not Thom Yorke. I guess you just don't like really intelligent art school students.

No offense to switz but if my avatar doesn't win this debate I'm not sure what to do with the lot of you.

I agree. I think Morency is arguably the most talented RB on the roster but I'm not sure he's feature back material. I've always likened him to Mewelde Moore - a very good third-down RB who can be very successful as a spot starter. But he may not be built for the rigors of a 16-game schedule as your starter.I've been impressed with Wynn. I don't think he's a plodder; I think he runs hard and he has some shiftiness to his game. I think the coaching staff wants to see more toughness from him, though, so him coming back quickly from his neck injury this week is likely a positive. I don't think he's anything special, mind you. The Packers will seriously need to address their RB position in the off-season.

If Wynn starts I think the Packers will be able to run the ball well this week, so this is good news.

I look forward to watching a more balanced Packer offense control the game in a very tough stadium.

Call me crazy, but whichever back starts for GB (especially if it's Wynn) will get 90-100+ yards and a TD. In fact they pretty much have to because I don't think Favre will be able to air it out vs their secondary.

I'll agree on Kid Rock. Seriously had no clue who that was. And for the record, I don't discriminate against intelligent art school students--in my opinion ALL art school students can flip off.

me, i'd like to see him play a few games before calling him a bust.pre-season is a wash. he looked OK. they threw him right in to the fire and crammed a WHOLE LOT down his throat right away. he started the first 3 games and then got hurt. the line has looked horrible run blocking and McCarthy has leaned heavily on the pass.it's not like the Packers are tearing up the league on the ground since he went to the bench. Wynn is averaging 8 carries per game. he has 202 yards rushing on 49 carries with 82 of those yards coming on two carries.but people want to talk about how Wynn is clearly a superior talent. how Jackson was a terrible draft pick and he's a bust after 3 NFL games.

Original Link has been updated I think: 2:31 pm

McCarthy: Wynn is No. 1 back

Coach Mike McCarthy has been reluctant to declare a No. 1 running back this season, but he made clear today that DeShawn Wynn is the starter until further notice.

"He's in the No. 1 slot right now," McCarthy said, "so he has an opportunity to take it and do something with it, so we'll see what he can do."

Is Morency still banged up?
When will Morency owners realize that the GB coaching staff only see him as a 3rd down back , it s week 8 already .
:loco: he was brought aboard to BE the 3rd down back.
And to make things worst , Ryan Grant will take away som third downs from Morency . So he becomes basically useless.
In my opinion this is the most interesting development of the week. In PPR leagues, this bears watching because Favre will throw to his RBs so there is some RB3 potential there for whoever gets the third-down looks.

Actually, I think Herron was brought aboard to be the 3rd down back.Well, they both were...but that was with Green as a feature back. They have no feature back (though, half of the NFL seems to not have feature backs anymore).

Where is this Grant getting 3rd down action coming from? I haven't seen a quotes to that effect.

I think its from Morency still being banged up...and Grant getting more reps when Wynn was out.
