Things have changed. Two words come to mind when I think of Jerry in charge of the Cowboys draft: Quincy Carter. Jerry likes his toys, and will look at Felix and won't be able to resist.
This is also a major mis-conception. The way that Dallas sets its draft board is that they have several people grade everyone. They then take an average grade. The board falls out accordingly. They put this process in place to keep people (Jones and Tuna especially) from steam-rolling the process. I DONT think you'll see a return of Jerry-the-Overreacher of yesteryear. I'll say one thing about Jones. He does learn from his mistakes. With Jerry "buying the groceries"

I would love Kenny Phillips for that pick. The Saftey position is thin this year, while the Oline is someone deep. Take Phillips, who will improve that entire defense b/c then we have a saftey with speed for the cover two and one that can tackle/can better angles to negate huge runs by ADP/Ryan Grant/etc.Then take Olineman with the next 3 picks (2nd, 3rd,3rd).....that would be an ideal draft for me. Then add in a RB/WR in the 4th.While the lines certainly are a soft spot, I don't think the Bears are good enough anywhere to say "No way" to a certain pick. I contemplated Phillips to Chicago in my mock.I actually thougt about having the Bears trade out of that spot with someone to jump up and grab Phillips. Decided against messing with trades on my first attempt. No way the Bears go SS. They need help in the trenches and will draft O line or DT in the first.
All we can do is try and explain. Some will catch on. Others won't.I've tried explaining this in other threads...no one believes us.....lol.This is also a major mis-conception. I agree that ILB is a bigger need, but there isn't the type of player on the board that would merit the pick.Is DE a need for SD? I can see them going more for an impact ILB, oline depth or a Safety. With Jamaal Williams banged up and older they may need a DT who fits the 3-4 as well. No 2nd rd pick means they have to hit it big with their #1...

Looking back over the information I was using, I have no idea why I had them going LB there. I'll probably give you a WR when I revise this.I didn't really look that closely before but the Vikings are quite happy with their linebacker depth. I don't see the need for Highsmith in the 2nd. He's not going to start ahead of Greenway and he's not a strong side backer so he won't take Leber's spot.
I'd probably go Bell over Goff.Goff?I agree that ILB is a bigger need, but there isn't the type of player on the board that would merit the pick.Is DE a need for SD? BTW, Isnt Harvey (Univ of Florida) more of a 4-3 DE? He's about 265 isnt he? Pretty much a proto-typical 3-4 OLB, right?Goff?I agree that ILB is a bigger need, but there isn't the type of player on the board that would merit the pick.Is DE a need for SD? Both he and Groves have the size and skills to play either a 4-3 DE or a 3-4 OLB.BTW, Isnt Harvey (Univ of Florida) more of a 4-3 DE? He's about 265 isnt he? Oher is going back to school.Pretty decent effort for a 1st timer.......but the omission of OT Michael Oher, a likely Top 15 propsect, is almost a crime.........but not really a crime....My pre-combine 2008 mock is on the way......2 rounds with commentaryAs a raider fan, DE is certainly a top priority, but I cannot see both selections going to the defensive line.....a speedy playmaker on offense will be in the mix on at least 1 of the first 2 picks........did somebody say, McFadden???.......

Here is a recent blurb from a chat that talks about my point (took me forever to find it)Who will be running the draft for the Cowboys? What can you tell us about this Tom Ciskowski? I'm concerned Jerry will reach for a player like he's done in the past.Jean-Jacques Taylor: Here's the way the Cowboys have set up their draft for the last several years. Each player gets graded by six different members of the organization. Then the player receives a consensus grade from the entire organization and that determines where he is placed on the draft board. The idea behind the concept is to prevent one person – Parcells or Jerry – from steamrolling the process. Ciskowski is a well-respected scout throughout the NFL and has handled the college scouting for several years. All we can do is try and explain. Some will catch on. Actually I think I would be happy with the Bills first two picks. Kelly and Cason would fit two big needs. And are you saying Cason should be in the first or the third?Other than Cason going in the second, I like it.
Sorry, but I think Polian is too smart for that. Unless he can become the next great thing as a return man I don't see him in INDY.I love Steve Slaton to Indy in the second round.
First. If the Bills could come away with Kelly/Cason, fans should do cartwheels.Actually I think I would be happy with the Bills first two picks. Kelly and Cason would fit two big needs. And are you saying Cason should be in the first or the third?Other than Cason going in the second, I like it.
Thanks for digging up that quote. I knew I read it somewhere recently. :thumbsup:Here is a recent blurb from a chat that talks about my point (took me forever to find it)Who will be running the draft for the Cowboys? Well, I think Kelly would be a tiny bit of a reach but Cason would make up for it if he fell to us. I think CB is more of a need than WR, but I don't think there is a CB good enough to take with the 1.11 now that Malcom Jenkins is going back to school. If it worked out this way then I would be psyched.First. If the Bills could come away with Kelly/Cason, fans should do cartwheels.Actually I think I would be happy with the Bills first two picks. Mike Jenkins from USF could go that high.Well, I think Kelly would be a tiny bit of a reach but Cason would make up for it if he fell to us. I completely agree - someone mentioned getting someone that can rush off the edge - and I think that's one way to go - I also see the need to continue rebuilding that Ol-ine - and I get the feeling they won't make a big move there in free agency. They might o-line, but I don't know enough quite yet to make that call with confidence. But O-line and D are the Jets biggest needs this year, IMO.But it's a good mock and I don't think it's far from most of what I've seen this early on.He's not peterson. Peterson is a cyborg who makes a living running up the middle and bowling through defenders. It just seems like every one of Mcfadden's highlights is a sweep or option play with a 15 foot wide hole. hell, his backup averaged 9 yards a carry. There isnt a RB on the planet that will make a diference running behind that O-line. A scrub RT, 2 scrub guards and an undersized LT. Jones and Washington are enough to move the ball, if they have some blockers.I know. So many people are predicting this that it's seeping my own mock, which I just started.I see the rationale, the Taylor/Peterson attraction, but I think they have more pressing needs. But it's not outside the realm of possibility....Jets and McFadden again![]()

As it stands, the Browns' first pick in the draft in April will be in the second round, No. 53 overall.
IIRC, teams with identical records slide down a spot each successive round. THis would explain the Browns pick at 53.This blurb was in a Jan. 10th Columbus Dispatch article...I used the order that was used on the Draftguys mock. The Browns pick at 2.22 (53rd overall).2.22. Seattle - Ray Rice - RB
