Cuban outfielder Yoenis Cespedes went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts and a hit by pitch Thursday in his first game for Aguilas of the Dominican Winter League.Reports have indicated that Cespedes, who was in the designated hitter slot instead of playing the outfield, was having trouble with sliders in the game. It's no doubt an inauspicious debut, but it would be silly to draw too much from one game. What is strange, though, is his decision to play in the Dominican Winter League in the first place. It's only for a handful of games, but the risk of injury would seem to outweigh any positive impression he could make. Cespedes, who is expected to be granted free agency by MLB soon, is being pursued by the Yankees, Cubs, Phillies, Blue Jays, Rangers, Tigers, White Sox, Nationals and Marlins, who, according to their president, will make an "aggressive" run at the outfielder.
