Not true. Local, regional, and national gatherings are a lot of fun. There are special interest groups for a wide range of subjects, and there are a lot ways to connect to other Mensans via social media (including international members). Email and magazine publications are interesting as well.
As far as putting it on a resume...most avoid it because it tends to hurt more than help.
