Young potential stud TE's (1 Viewer)

Graham, Cook, Moeaki, Hernandez, Gronkowski, Gresham, Pettigrew

With Cook having a nice game this week, I thought it would be interesting to see who the FBG posters think has the best chance to be a top 6 TE. I assume most would agree that Whitten, Davis, Finely, Clark and Gates are the big 5. So to make the top 6 one of these guys would have to outproduce Daniels, Z Miller, Lewis, Winslow, Cooley, Heap etc.

Who is your pick?

Do you ever recall the TE position in FF being deeper?

Does the depth of the talent devalue TE's in the near future (every one can have a good one)?

Graham is my pick. He is still raw (he and Cook need the most work), but I also think he is the most athletically gifted. He has a very good work ethic and head on his shoulders. He is also in a great offense with a QB that will throw to the TE.

I actually like all of these guys witch is why I think this is the deepest TE group I have ever seen. IMO this does devalue TE's to some extent, although the big 5 are still very valuable until/if these young guys develop into the studs they could be.

I agree that it is a deep field, but with Gates, Witten and Gonzo all aging, I am not sure who is elite (i.e. head and shoulders above the rest). Most likely will be Finley, and possibly Davis, but I also think we could have a couple of years where #1 overall in TEs is pretty close (or closer than usual) to TE#6. Looking at my PPR, Gates, Witten and Cooley are in the top 5...Clark would have been there too. Cooley will be 29 at the start of 2011 and he is the "young buck" of that group. M. Lewis is the wild card...he will have a coaching change (my guess) as will Davis, so who knows how they will be featured going forward?

I think we will have more guys hit that 150 mark in PPR (just an example) than ever before, but may have none that hit over 200 points...could be a big congestion and a reason to actually wait on TE in 2011.

I think it's a deep group that makes TE susceptible to the commitee approach as a draft strategy...much like some have been using for QB's as of late.

It's purely anecdotal, but I'm in a championship game and I've been rotating Hernandez, Moeaki and Watson ever since Finley went down. I've had my weeks of misses with those guys, to be sure, but the odds of having a TE10-20 putting up top 10 numbers from week to week seems to be greater than it ever has been.

I suspect that use of TE's as a key cog in the passing game is more systemic across the whole NFL than it has been for some time. I can remember a few years ago when there was talk of the TE becoming extinct. Just goes to show you that what was old becomes new again.

I agree with the age part. But I have to say I am not as high on Finley as I was this preseason. I haven't crunched the numbers, but Rodgers seems to have re-established some rapport with Jennings. So I am not so sure that Finley will be consistent or dominant from week to week in 2011.

I think there will be dominating games for him, but I think there could be games where he gets shut down and Jennings, Jones, et al dominate the targets. That risk, added to a deep TE field, could make me pass on him as TE1 and address the need with two later round picks instead.

We could be looking at a situation where Finley's impact is seen as much in who he gets open as much as it is in his own box score contribution. And with a QB like Rodgers, who will find the open guy, there's no reason for force feed Finley the way Gates was once force fed.

TE's like Gates and Finley won't remain uncoverable. NFL D's always adapt.

targeting pettigrew in all my drafts next season.
Agreed. I had Gates, (Oak) Zach Miller with Pettigrew on developmental this year and when it came to the point that I had to pare it down to two, I dropped Z. Miller. I have no idea how it'll work out, but that's how highly I think of Pettigrew. He has the supporting cast and talent to be elite down the road.

I think Gresham had a very nice rookie season - I am liking him in dynasty for the long haul or even redraft next year

I like Graham over Moeaki (I like Moeaki 2nd) because of the offense and I think if Shockey is not back with NO next year, Graham will definitely be a top 10 guy and possibly much better than that.

I like Gronk over Hernandez but they cancel each other out for studness. They are both awesome but unless one gets hurt too much sharing for either to be top 10 and definitely not top 5.
