Patriots vs Steelers on Thursday 9/4.

The Patriots have an incredibly easy schedule next season and their other home opponents are: Buffalo, Miami, NY Jets, Denver, Kansas City, Arizona and St. Louis.

All pretty lackluster matchups so look for Pittsburgh to play New England in the opener if the Patriots go on and win the Super Bowl.

The Super Bowl winner gets a home opener on the Thursday of Week 1. It's the new thing in the NFL with the showing of the debut of the banner. I don't know if I spelled debut right, but I'm positive about this.

I'd assume the game would be vs Denver or Arizona.

I also don't think it will be Pittsburgh. NE vs. Pittsburgh gets good ratings no matter what. They will want to save that one for later in the year.

Why would you assume Denver or Arizona? Pittsburgh is the only playoff team New England faces at home next season.

Of the "easy" matchups you've listed, there is not one team on that list that I wouldn't expect to perform better in 2008 than they did on 2007. Further, it's reasonable to think that all the teams listed with the exception of Miami can field a playoff caliber squad in 2008.So, I reject the characterization of "incredibly easy schedule".

:blackdot: How can you classify a schedule as "incredibly easy" before drafts, Free Agency, training camps, pre-season games, retirements, coaching changes, and preseason injuries occur?

Fair enough. But the Patriots only play three teams that made the playoffs in 2007: Pittsburgh, Seattle and Indianapolis. In contrast the Steelers play New England, Jacksonville, Indianapolis, Tennessee, San Diego, Dallas, NY Giants and Washington as well as playing a 10-6 team twice (Cleveland) that just missed the playoffs. I am not taking a jabb at the Patriots -- the schedule rotates and it is not in their control who they play but you have to admit that right now that schedule looks pretty soft. I agree that teams can and do rise and fall from year to year but that really is beside the point as far as the NFL schedule goes. Those dates are set well before training camp and preseason games soo all you really have to go by is last season.Which other home opponent on the Patriots schedule do you think would get better ratings than Pittsburgh?

Understandable, at this point, probably none, so assuming the Patriots win the Superbowl, you're most likely correct in that respect. Also keep in mind however, that half the teams that made the playoffs this year didn't in 2006. Outside of the few consistent teams (ie. Indy, NE, Sea, ect.) the teams do rise and fall. I think it was just a poor choice in words saying that their schedule is easy, when you probably meant "not very enticing big name games at home".

Steelers schedule looks far more difficult than that of the Pats. Only the Jets have a chance of drawing better ratings than a Steelers Pats matchup, and even that is doubtful. I'm just glad we get the Steelers at home.

The Patsies also play the Chargers in San Diego next year, so that is 4 teams
