Your Go-To Shoe. (1 Viewer)

Allen Edmonds anniversary sale. Not often they offer up to $100 off on some of the most popular styles.
I've been looking at Allen Edmonds for a few weeks based on this thread. I did the online fitting guide. I'd like to get a black pair and a brown/mahogany pair. Are there any styles that look great with the versatility for 1) With a jacket dressed up, 2) With dockers/business casual, and 3) Jeans?

ETA: I like the Park Avenue Oxford Lace-Up but is it too formal? The Carlyle Plain-Toe Oxfords look like they could be versatile.

Honestly, now that i am living in SF i am tearing through shoes like you would not believe. I have always been a cole hann person but since nike bought them you cannot redo the soles. My go to shoe place has suggested Allan Edmonds as a good shoe that will last for a long time. Intersted to hear what others think.

for me, this is barely a cut above Aldo and other lesser makers. while they look good, they are not durable at all and suffer from really poor construction. i went through a pair of their oxfords in less than a year. i have never had that happen with shoes before.

Allan Edmonds are really good. I'm also a fan of Frye - big fan of them in fact - and Too Boot.

Those both seem a bit formal. Generally speaking the lighter the color and the more brogueing the more casual the shoe. Oxfords are also a bit more formal than say a Blucher.Don't get anything in black unless you are wearing a dark suit regularly. Dark brown or cordovan is going to be more useful (with the exception of interviews). I have a pair of black Park Avenues that I pretty much only wear for interviews. Even then, with the exception of finance or legal, you could probably use dark brown or cordovan anyway. Not a very versatile shoe.

I think Walnut Strands are the most versatile shoe Allen Edmonds makes.

I believe Allen Edmonds and Alden are the last two Goodyear-welted shoemakers in the US. The next easiest to find are going to be Italian shoes at high-end stores. They both have stores in SF so it's pretty easy to try them on. Pay attention to the lasts. If you find something that fits well you can look online for different styles on the same last. They should fit the same.

Casual - Birkenstocks Dark Brown Leather, Birkenstock Leather Clog

Dress Casual - Timberland Boat Shoe

Suit/Work Shoe - Johnston & Murphy Oxford Cap Toe

If I were rich, I would be like a woman and pretty much own tons of Ralph Lauren, Johnston & Murphy, and other beautiful shoes imaginable, but alas, only a few of us.

That said, love the OP's sense of casual suede style.
This is like right out of the closet of the prototypical "Dad with beer belly, khaki pants and shorts, balding, coach soccer on the weekends in a typical middle American suburb" textbook. It's like a caricature.

No kids, all resplendent blond hair, overweight, no suburb, all rural, Northeast hippie, athletic shorts, J Crew t-shirt. :lmao:

Other than that, good call, balding overweight guy with kids who is two steps from selling his house and moving to Fairfield County.

Vans as casual. Have a sweet pair of John W Nordstrom cap toes that I love for dress shoes. New Balance Minimus for working out.

Most of the shoes in this thread I wouldn't be caught dead wearing. Good grief.
REALLY bad. But it explains when I go to the mall and see all these awful shoes everywhere on the shelves. Someone must be buying them.

I did not know that I had a go-to shoe, but just realized that I do: Bostonian... from the Clarks outlet. I'm cheap :oldunsure:

Ordered a pair of Allen Edmonds Lexington in Bob's Chili color (two pair actually to see which fits better as it's free shipping on returns). They arrive tomorrow.

I wanted to order black at the same time but there is a four week wait. I thought I'd try the Chili first and if I like them then buy another pair.
