You're cat does not love you (1 Viewer)

My two cats love me so much that they have to be near me at all times. Whenever I have the newspaper on the desk while reading it at breakfast one of them can't bear to be away so she has to plop down right on the page just to make sure it doesn't blow away
Ditto...but ONLY me. Could care less about my wife or anyone else. My wife is home on maternity leave, and says the cat goes upstairs to the bedroom and sleeps all day until I come home. Once I get home, she comes down and sits next to me all night until we go to bed. I can pick her up, flip her over, rub her belly, pretty much do whatever to her. She'll lay on me, etc. Someone else tries to just pet her, and she'll hiss and flip #### at them.

How much?

Yeah my cats are pretty attached to me. When I sit down to watch TV I end up with with cats laying on me.I have one cat that when I try to leave the house gets on the couch then stretches out to get two paws on the door knob as if to stop me from going. But my wife? They are not interested at all. Now if I am there they will tolerate her but otherwise they don't care and are just waiting for me to show up.

Had a friend once that claimed he was allergic to cats. He picked this chick up at a bar one night and they went back to her place. She ended up being a weird, single cat lady that goes out once a year and was only out cause it was her friends birthday or something and had like a million cats in a cramped place. He ended up having one of his eyes swell up in a day from it. It looked like he just took a left hook. So depending on how bad it is and how many cats she has, it may not be possible to actually live with a cat. I know very little about allergies just thought I would share that story.
My mother in law has become very allergic to cats. They have to stay in a hotel when they come to town. Being in our place just a few minutes makes her extremely uncomfortable.
well played
Wasn't intentional. She loves cats. But over the last few years has become very allergic. With the exception of a minor dustup early on she has been great to me so having cats isn't about keeping her away at all.

Is this the thread where every last cat owner says "I know MOST cat's do _________, but MY Mr's Fluffflestuff is DIFFERENT. He doesn't think realize he's a cat!"

The next cat owner that I meet that isn't convinced their cat is a unique snowflake that's not subject to cat stereotypes will be the first.

No this is the thread where someone did a study that doesn't seem to match most peoples experience with their pets. I don't know what other cats do I can only tell you what mine do. They beg to be picked up and petted. They sleep on me any time I sit down to watch TV or play games. They follow me around the house. They don't fit the profile given at all.

My cats do demonstrate affection. When I enter a room they are in they do respond to me. And my cats never kill anything unless it gets in the house. Owners that let cats wander are the reason those birds are dead. Let a dog wander and it may well kill some small animal as well. What a crap article.
:goodposting:

It is a silly and obviously biased article, but I was reading it anyway out of curiosity. But I stopped after their solutions for the environmental impact were to bring your cat in at night and/or put a bell on it, never even considering the best and most obvious solution to keep your cat indoors.

- Owner of three cats and a dog. I'm really a dog person (my wife a cat person), but cats are downright cool. Different than dogs, of course, but great in their own ways.

2 Cats. The older one only likes me and my kids. Will run and hide from anyone else. If the kids and I are both home, he will always come sit by me though. Sleeps next to me every night.

The younger one is a little whore and loves everyone.

I've seen other articles that suggest the bell. It seems to me that if you let your cat go out at night with a bell attached it just as likely that you'll make him/her an easy target for other predators like coyotes, fisher cats, owls etc.

My previous cat was great. Best pet I've ever had. My current cat is fun and weird and athletic, but she's also kind of a dummy.

Maybe it's because stereotypes, by definition, are lazy and stupid?

I'm going to need to see that dictionary entry.

Not sure you understand the phrase "by definition."

Shut up, cat hater.

Heck, a wandering dog probably kills a small child.

Some of the research results correspond to what I understand about my cats. Cats generally are different than dogs. They don't particularly want attention all the time. They want attention on their terms. I like that about cats. It makes them less needy than dogs (and children). I do think some of the conclusions are over-simplifications. My cats don't enjoy being petted out of the blue, but they will come over and seek a scratch on the chin or the head when it suits them. Often at specific times (one of my cats does a circuit between me and my wife around 9PM every night).

Even among cats, some are snugglers and some are more independent.
