Youth Basketball Coaches Books - 10 Year olds (1 Viewer)

I'll give it a try. Just need to have them overcome the fear of that first pass. I guess not going up to that half line will give them space against the top defender.
If I'm picturing this right, the ball defender is waiting to meet the point guard at the mid court line.  The rest of the offense is in the front court waiting for the ball to come up and start the offense.  Is that right?  How about having two players bring the ball up (if the player without the ball is waiting lower it might help, but if it waits at mid court too, this might not work as well).  I'll call these two players 1 (with the ball) and 2 (without the ball).  Before they reach mid court, 1 passes to 2, and 1 cuts to the basket.  If 1 catches his defender by surprise, it might be open and 2 gives him the ball back (give and go).  1 continues to the basket and shoots, assuming help defense is as bad as typical at this level.  It might not take more than a couple of these to work to get the defense to back up and play more offense.

The other thing you have to do at this level is work on ball handling a LOT.  You need a few kids who are adept/comfortable dribbling the ball.  It doesn't take long to figure out who these kids are.

I know little about basketball but I have an 11 year old - 5th grade who shows potential.  Can anyone direct me to materials where I can help him with skill development even with my low bball IQ?

It's fun to win but there is too much emphasis on it and, more often than not, coaches sacrifice player development to get wins at that age.  My u15's will qualify for state playoffs here but I am much more proud of the job I did with my u10's who didn't win a game for two years.
Looking back at this after the bump.  My u10 team that went winless fur two years won the district as u12's the following two years.  Two of our kids got poached by bigger clubs and I campaignedt for the others to double license so they can play in the highest league and remain with the local club.

This year has been a little rough as my three horses are playing u14, U16, and with the club in the city.  U18 coach asked if my son can play there as well but he needs a medical waiver and my wife is reluctant as he had his arm broken in a game last year.

Long story short, I know, too late,  keep the game and trust the process is more important than the result.
