I've been in Vegas for March Madness. It's a whole lot of fun. Bet some games for just a little money. Then sit back, watch, and cheer with your new friends (who gambled on the same game the way that you did).

I did it a few times when I was a yout like 15-20 years ago, and my buddies have been doing it almost every year in that time frame, so I'll let them lead on things.

Speaking of the Maurile roulette system - not sure what it's but it doesn't work - my daughter spent a summer semester at the University of Melbourne. One day she emailed and I quote "I'll call you guys tomorrow to tell you about my new amazing job that makes $200 an hour! Seriously. And it's not drug dealing or stripping."

Turns out it was the Martingale doubling method in roulette. Her max bet was $500 and she reached it 4 times, fortunately winning 3 times on what is close to a 50-50 proposition. She said she was really nervous each time she reached the max.  It's better in Australia than the USA because there's only 1 zero spot, not 2. The system doesn't work because there's a limit on bets and on credit. We reviewed the statistics of the system and she stopped while she was ahead.

Listening to Side One of The Distillers' Coral Fang all freaking day today. A bit slowed down from their previous album, Sing Sing Death House, but still remarkable. I know you hate modern punk, but this is some pop/metal/indie/punk goodness. A thick album, you know?

Most likely not a popular answer--but I'd find a no limit texas hold'em poker table.  You're playing against other players--and not the house. Secondly--generally speaking--the blinds for a table that allows a 42 dollar buy in won't be too big.  You can wait and see a few hands until you get one that's solid enough to go "all in" with.

Or they're just biding their time. But it's the album I'm listening to now. Such a wonderful sounding album, though I fear the remastering may have ####ed up its original charm.

Yeah, the odds for the basic pass line in craps is, I believe, about as close to even odds as you can get.

By the way, one quibble: Pip's Invitation and simey can pull Parsons out dey ###. Hands down, God's honest troof. Pip's an encyclopedia of knowledge, and simey can in a heartbeat. She's forgotten more about music than I've digested.

Pai Gow you should be able to push often enough and break even that you could easily take down $80 in free drinks before the $42 runs out. I consider that a win.

 
For table games, I only know craps, blackjack and roulette.  $40 isn't much to play with but I'd go with $5 pass line bets backing up each bet with $5 odds (if a point is established).  Craps is a lot of fun if you get on a roll.  Since you know Blackjack, I'd probably stick to that though.  In Vegas, you'd probably need to go downtown to find tables with $5 min bets.

 
Find a single deck blackjack table that has several players already and an open seat.

Stand and watch for awhile. When the first deal of a new shuffle comes out, watch for the number of 10s on the board. (KQJ10) If there are only a few 10s displayed on the first deal at a busy table, get your money in on the next deal.

Not with only $42.   You need a bankroll to ride out the streaks in craps.  I agree with the other poster who said always bet wrong(as it's called when you play the dont's) problem with that is while everyone is bummed a 7 just rolled, It's hard to cheer too loudly as you get paid, and paid well.

I would either say blackjack..One hand.  Or roulette.  The house odds on most roulette tables is 5%, however for one bet, that hold isn't a huge factor, over time, roulette will eat your lunch.  Problem with blackjack is you need more $$ to take advantage of the lower house edge bets.  If you drop $42 on one bet and you are dealt an 11 against a dealer 6, you should double down.  And if you can't cause you only have one bet, well you just missed out on a bet that gives a huge advantage to the player, which negates your advantage long term.

Baccarat is the best as far as lowest house advantage.  One bet, and you don't need to know the rules, the dealer is forced to play cards depending on what comes up.  No thinking involved and the house edge is around 1%.
