Zac Robinson Detroit (1 Viewer)

I was surprised the Pats cut him. Very intelligent "good guy" QB, a project and all seemed like their prototype.

I noticed Detroit just claimed him from Seattle.

I don't think he's NFL ready. I'm not so much singing his praises but, he is WAY better than Stanton.

With a few days practice? I'd still start him if I were Schwartz. All Stanton does is make mistakes and here's this intelligent QB that hasn't been sitting on the sideline for most of three years getting rusty and out of sync.

I hope we see him play.

I don't think he was cut - he was on the practice squad. 3rd QBs often find their way there, especially if teams have injuries.

Robinson knew how to throw it up to Dez Bryant in college. Looked good at the Senior Bowl in Mobile. Better arm than most expected. Athletic, and can keep a play alive while keeping his eyes downfield.

but, he is WAY better than Stanton.
How can you possibly make that assertion? And, even if he was, how can you expect a QB to come to a new team and play right away?
Stanton's play that I've seen this year is the worst I've seen a QB play in quite some time. And re playing, I don't. I just said I hope he does. Once Stanton commits four turnovers, it can't be too tough for Schwartz to consider putting Zac in.

That's a big statement - have you witnessed Carolina or Arizona games this year? Rusty Smith, anyone?

Bryant didn't play Zac's senior year.Seems like 10k impressive NFL rookies came from last year's Big 12 and Zac did well against all of em' so (Senior Bowl for example) he's played against a higher level of competition than most rookies. I'm not saying he'll rock but he's a smart QB. I figured he would be the type of QB that begins with this super stripped down boring offense that some praise for making few mistakes. The mistakes is where I see him having the biggest value over Stanton. I gotta say, it wouldn't surprise me if he did well. He's not Bradford. He's not McCoy. That pretty much sums up his college career, not being one of those two darlings; yet he did very well anyway always being the underdog or the forgotten guy. And if his panic move is to just chuck it up to the big WR, I'm pretty sure Detroit fans would be OK with that. Just about anything he and Dez did would be well received in regards to Calvin. The guy is on his third team his rookie year and it'd be silly to get excited about him. I saw a number of games and that the guy rarely threw an incompletion. I mean like 15 of 17, 17 of 20 or somesuch. Not every week but probably 4-5 games were like that and they weren't gimme throws or dumpoffs. Maybe people need to have seen him play because his stats aren't overwhelming. He catches your eye. If you google, you'll see he was nobody and then there was plenty of discussion after workouts and the senior bowl. Prob like Cecil, all the scouts were like "wait who is that?" and he caught their eye.

lol yeah Rusty may have edged him out Jeff, but I'd start Robinson over Rusty "in a heartbeat" if I were a coach.

We're talking 3rd and 4th string QBs here, not cream of the crop players.

Stanton's play is so bad a QB off the street like Culpepper could come in and start this week,Oh, wait...that already happened.
Good pointWith a good looking young starter and a solid veteran backup the Lions are fairly set at QB. Most years the third stringer doesn't even see the field. It's too bad Stanton isn't good. If he were, the Lions could show him off these final few weeks and trade him.A number of NFL teams don't even have 3 QBs anymore and even more keep their 3rd stringer on the PS so it's a fairly trivial position in today's NFL. Schwartz might be looking for a replacement for Stanton. 3 years now and the former second rounder doesn't display progress. (Surprisingly) He's played in all three years and he had 5-6 INTs and zero TDs last year. Schwartz might feel Zac is a better project. "Time to develop" needs to be given, but when does it run out for Stanton and he must produce? Might be three years.

Stanton's best move is to do his best Todd Bouman impression and heave everything deep towards Calvin Johnson regardless of what play is actually called. That of course would help me win too.

Ditto Zac Robinson when Stanton gets hurt.

Brian Hoyer is a way better prospect than Robinson (and a future starter IMO), which is why Robinson was unprotected. Robinson has issues making good reads in coverage and will occasionally make some boneheaded plays over the middle. He is a decent athlete with the right size, arm, athleticism that personnel guys like. But like Stanton he's raw. However he didn't force the ball as much as Stanton typically did. He also didn't try to be Superman like Stanton frequently did (and failed) at MSU.

That said, I wouldn't start a rookie QB with less than a week in the system and expect him to do as well as a QB (even as poor as Stanton)with years with an organization and four years of NFL experience unless he's proven to be a wunderkind. Zac Robinson just isn't that guy. I think he'll make a better backup than Stanton with more time, but not like this.
