Zach Britton - P BAL (1 Viewer)

Per Rotoworld.com:

Orioles prospect left-hander Zach Britton will make his major league debut Sunday against the Rays.
What can be expected of him this season? Should he be on my radar in fantasy leagues?

Maybe in a deep league. He was probably the Orioles best pitcher during spring training. The O's sent him down to try and gain an extra year of service time. Once Matusz landed on the DL, they were kind of out of options.

Scouts seem to think he is the best prospect of all the young pitchers that the Orioles have. Supposed to be a real good ground ball pitcher, which is clutch when half your games are at Camden Yards. I'm hoping for 10-12 wins and an era between 4.0 - 4.5 this year.

He was picked up in my 12 team league this morning.

I have Britton on my minors squad. He was expected to be called up in late april/early may for contractual reasons per the report below from CBS earlier this week
The Orioles optioned SP Zach Britton to Triple-A Norfolk, ending his bid to start with the ball club on opening day, but he's not expected to be there for long. Britton went 3-0 in four starts this spring with a 1.35 ERA over 20 innings, allowing 22 hits and striking out 13. It is expected that he'll get the call to the majors in late April due to contractual reasons. "It’s flattering that the organization feels that highly of me that they want me around for so long," he told MLB.com.

Yeah, April 21 is the day they were waiting for. There's an argument going on at the Orioles board I go to about whether Britton will be sent down for 20 days later in the season in order to still get that extra year of service. I don't think he will unless he struggles real bad (which I'm not expecting).

Wouldn't roster him in anything but a deep or only league, I would happily stream him if someone else won't roster him but I'm not starting him against anyone in the AL East. He's a good fit for Baltimore's hitter friendly park with his groundball tenedencies, but there will be growing pains. Likely a quality buy in 2012 or 2013

I think during the FOX broadcast earlier today that the Rangers were possible the greatest team ever.

IP: 7.2

H: 4

R: 0

ER: 0

BB: 3

K: 2

ERA: .66

Don't like that KK/BB ratio, but he was a groundball machine yesterday.

Not sure if I would pick up him or Narveson.

Britton plays in the toughest division in baseball and doesn't get to throw against pitchers. I'd take Narveson without question.

Somebody in my league must post here as Narveson was picked up before I even finished typing that.

Who do like the most between Shields, Masterson, and Holland?

Shields has problems pitching in tough spots

Masterson has trouble with lefties

Holland has problems with the gopher ball

Britton has a problem with his division

Narveson has a problem with talent, although he does a good job working with what little he has

I'd treat them all like someone you picked up off the corner, they're all hot right now so play the matchups. There will be more just like them throughout the year in leagues that they're currently on waivers. If you're in a deeper league, one in which guys like them won't be available later in the year, I'd go with Holland or Shields, depending on how much risk I'm willing to accept. You can probably start Shields all year, just can't expect much. If Holland figures out his gopher problems, tough problem to correct especially in his home park, he could be huge...or if he doesn't he's unownable again.

4-1, 2.84ERA, 1.17 WHIP, 19K in 31 IP (could be higher)I like it so far
His SO/9 numbers are just about where you'd expect them to be based on his minor league record. Britton isn't going to be a big K threat unless he changes his approach or adds a pitch. The big thing for me is that he's been consistent so far. That's huge for a young pitcher and something the other Orioles starters haven't been able to put together. We'll see if that holds when the weather warms up and the league has had a chance to see more of him.
