Zach Hilton (1 Viewer)

Maybe in a deep, deep dynasty, but I don't see any reason to take him in a redraft. There's just too many other TE's out there with the same potential, and much better opportunity.

While I agree with Chase, I'm also a bit curious.

The Jets OC is Brian Schottenheimer, who has some experience developing and utilizing an athletic pass-catching TE. The coach is Eric Mangini, who has seen plenty of creative TE use in New England. Though I'm cautious about predicting anything from preseason, Doug Jolley got looks in 2-TE sets, and well, he couldn't block either. The Jets may have a niche in their offense for that type of player. If he's really such a great pass-catcher, I guess his long-term value depends on whether you think he can be taught to block more effectively.

I dunno how prevalent the two-TE set will be. BJ Askew's a pretty good FB, and the Jets should run three receiver sets quite a bit. Coles will be on the field all the time, but Dwight, Cotchery and McCareins should see lots of time too. And Brad Smith will probably be on the field as often as the team can get him there, regardless of position.

To get to 11, you've got the 5 OL and the QB. The RB, Coles and Baker should be on the field on most plays. For those other two spots, I'd probably put the order as:

Cotchery

Dwight

Askew

McCareins

Smith

Hilton

When you consider the grueling training camp those guys went through, I think they'll be the ones Mangini feels most comfortable using. Just my :twocents:

Before you say "here we go again....", I'm just providing the facts here.

ZH caught 35 passes on 56 targets (62.5% catch rate, good, not great for a TE) for 396 yards and 1 TD in 2005. He finished as the #22 TE.

The interesting things about him are (A) his size - he's 6'8" and 268 lbs, and (B) his numbers were mostly second half of '05. Prior to Week 11, his numbers were 5-36-0 on 12 targets. So in his last 7 games, he was 30-360-1. That's the interesting part.

Zach Hilton

It's easy to write this guy off considering what just went down in New Orleans. However, he has shown that he can catch the ball on short / medium passes in the NFL.

I'm glad he's getting a second look, regardless of the outcome. Someone else saw what many of us saw last winter.

And yet they didnt even want to offer him a minimum contract in the offseason to get him.It doesnt take a whole lot of interest to pick up a FA right now. Zach Hilton is as appealing to the Jets as Johnathan Smith was to the Pats, Tim Massaquoi was to the Dolphins, Jovan Haye was to the Browns, and Casey Cramer, Eric King, Josh Savage and DeQuincy Scott were to the Titans. If those players made you say, "who?", you're damn right.

I never thought Marcellius Rivers had a chance in Oakland either :bag:

Hilton is inactive - not surprising given that they just signed him. Might be a good idea to grab him now for larger leagues. I think his role will increase as the season goes on.

Jets | Hilton releasedSat, 16 Sep 2006 06:00:15 -0700The New York Jets have released TE Zach Hilton.
Diesel
:rolleyes:It's harder to pick out sleepers than to discount them. If saying that Zach Hilton won't be a Top 7 TE this year is your claim to fame then color me unimpress.
Slinger, I didn't say he acted humbly or politely stated his case or anything of that sort. The guy was right though. FWIW I was too and avoided that debate as we already went thru this a couple times in the spring and that was like the 3rd thread on it.(feel free to search) There's like 8-10 years worth of examples of Saints TEs that I've seen people get excited over only to fail. I have no idea why this fascination happens in FF but it does. Zach was just the next in line. We bash people that are wrong and it's only fair to give em' a thumbsup when they're right. (just like me) I'm sure diesel was wrong on plenty and right on plenty more. No need to dwell on any but for this brief moment, thumbs up diesel.

In the deepest of leagues is anyone still holding onto Zach? I am about to let go but curious to see if anyone expects him to sign somewhere else.
